    That's a case with a built-in bottle opener.

This is a really nice case. But it is way too difficult to remove, if you are inclined to switch cases often. I thought that I would break my phone! Same slimness as my Tones, so I went back to that (and LifeProof and Hint).

Looked and felt nice though. Moderately transparent. I was only out $9 as an experiment.

So I did a bit of 70's dyeing today. I found on another forum a guy that used black RIT dye on his SwitchEasy Tones case (black) to make the grey TPU near fully black! Sort of makes sense since any TPU will absorb dirt and grime and even some blue jean color (on the white ones).

Basically, the polycarbonate part doesn't absorb the dye, but the TPU part does. I used very hot scalding water instead of simmering. Took about 35 minutes. Here is the link to some photos as I was unable to get good ones myself. I tried it on an old Tones that I had. I live with this for a week and then do the other one.

This is now a near perfect color match for the black iPhone, well I guess, even a white one.

My son got the Green LifeProof case for his new iPhone 4S and does not like it due to the built in screen cover. It does not sit flush against the screen thereby making it hard for him to text and play his game apps on. We'll be getting him a Defender case instead which he said he likes better as that is what he has on his iPad Mini now.

Yeah, I'd say the life proof is not an everyday case unless you need the waterproofness. I use mine for fishing only.

Comparing a 'new black' Tones and the Slim Armor

A shared post on my 'little project' regarding the Tones case

Some photos of my 'black' Tones, after dyeing OEM Tones with RIT dye for about 45 minutes (in not simmering, but scalding hot RIT dye).

I compare it to the Slim Armor and a blue Tones. My dyed Tones now is a dark charcoal on the TPU section.

It really looks GREAT! If you are interested in details, let me know. Hats off to the OP above who first did this. Also, the process did not remove the black ring either. Buttons are a bit softer, which his good.

Although I like the OEM light grey, this dark charcoal is much nicer, and the Tones has a better lip than the Slim Armor...so a perfect and easy fix!!! Plus the Tones is a thinner and less wide case than the SA

My RIT's Tones on the left, black Slim Armor on the right. OEM blue Tones in the middle, untouched.

Front and rear shots of the RIT SwitchEasy Tones. Front lip is now dark charcoal since it is TPU and absorbed the black dye.

Does look nice. I've been trying out the Spigen Neo Hybrid EX Slim bumper in slate.

A friend had one and it was very slim indeed.

This is actually a 1mm thinner than my Tones case. 9.4 mm to be exact.
Easy buttons. I saw the white/satin one on the white iP5...looks very nice.
    Very, very light.
The Dante Red is interesting too. On black. iphone_5_case_neo_hybrid_ex_slim_vivid_dante_red_tumb.jpg iphone_5_case_neo_hybrid_ex_slim_metal_slate_img03.jpg

vf, there seems to be multiple variations of this case. The only white/satin color is for the Neo Hybrid Ex Slim Metallic, is that what yours is?

Edit: Didn't feel comfortable with a bumper, the reviews on it were mixed as well so I ordered another Ultra Thin Air, this time in satin silver. The picture is from the Spigen website.

yea, there are three types: metal, vivid and snow.

I have the metal slate and saw the metal satin silver. Both match the original phone colors.

I like thinness and the edge protection. Plus it shows off the back well. The back screens work well, but I plan to take it off.

I received the case today, impressive delivery in 2 days from CA with free shipping. The case looks great, pretty close to the aluminum color on the iPhone. Actually looks just like the picture from their website.

One thing is missing, with my prior two Spigen cases I got a coupon for $7.99 towards my next purchase but none was included with this one, have they discontinued this?

I just realized that I didn't get one either, with the purchase of my Neo Hybrid EX Slim bumper. I still have one left from my Slim Armor case.

Maybe its a new policy, and not based on over using them, since I never have.

It must be a new policy then. I still have one left as well and have only used one

I bought all three of mine, crystal clear, white, and the satin silver directly from Spigen.

Their prices have gone up by a couple of dollars(I think) from the last time.

    Maybe I will email them.

So I'm liking this bumper case for another reason. Was on the phone for a long time today, and the phone's back stayed much cooler. Having the aluminum back not covered in poorly conducting plastic let the AL heat sink/ dissipator do its job as intended.

No screens on front or back for me.

I always used a case like the Switcheasy Tones that gives 5- sided protection with a front lip. I don't use a front screen protector and it works out fine. A port for the Lightning connector help guide it in, preventing scratches at the bottom.

I've tried naked, but collecting nicks on the bevel is extremely easy. Just placing it down on a table is a problem. Apple always has made phones and music iPods with fragile or shinny, glossy plastic backs that don't stand up with use. Well even my black metal Nikon F1 and F2 cameras had the same problem. Unless you view nicked brass or Al as a badge of honor.

For the last two weeks I've been trying a bumper. The Neo Hybrid EX Slim by Spigen, metal slate color for the black iPhone 5. Not using the supplied screen protectors for front or back. It seems to be a perfect compromise.

Lightweight and slimmer than the Tones, it shows off the phones back clearly, absorbs bumps to the edges and the front and back lip do the job. Not being enclosed in a case, the back metal is exposed and the phone stays cooler. Plus, the silicone buttons gives a naked feel to the phones buttons. Very easy to install and remove when I decide to use my LifeProof Fre or another case.

I could see using the back screens perhaps. But it's working well for now. It's a much better bumper than the original iPhone 4 types. Gives enough grip to be better than a naked phone. I swear the reason Apple makes these phones so thin is to allow us to encase them and still have them thin.

Do you guys know if someone makes an "SwissArmy" type cell phone case? I have been looking for something but can't seem to come up with anything besides what looks to me as fake renderings. I did a google image search but nothing really solid showed up besides this

I want something like that though but may be with a knife lol

I found one company called IN1 (In1Case - The ultimate iphone utility case) but their product is on pre-order right now and not available yet. Seems pretty cool with color options but I don't see an option or think I can get one with a knife because they are TSA approved. I wonder if I can make my own knife insert lol, I go fishing a lot and it would be cool if I can just go down to the lake across the street from my house with my rod and cellphone and it seems this company has everything I want but no knife.

    Good find! Sort of neat.

But how do you use the phone to google/display 'how to' for a home project...and use the screwdriver on the phone at the same time?

    ;)

whoa that looks ok but it looks freaking huge/heavy and honestly $100 is a bit pricey for a cell phone case if you ask me. I just want the knife out of it, I ended up pre-ordering the IN1Case because they were running a special for $30 so i thought its's worth a try.

I found this video of it, made me wanna dance kinda LOL but it seems like it's a lot thinner and not heavy/bulky looking. I will find out soon enough I guess

The new Apple leather cases are quite nice. A bit pricy, but not above what is in the after market. Great color selection and covers all 5 sides with a protruding lip for front protection.

Most after market cases are too thick and hinder the flash. Fits 5 and 5S.

Plus shows the Apple logo on back which 3rd party cases are not allowed to. $39

    Black, brown,beige,red,blue,yellow.
