Allow me to recommend my favorite - the Apple Leather Case. I have had mine for three months exposing it 4 different climate zones and other than a small dimple at the top corner still looks as good as new :)

Is the Apple Leather Case made by Apple or Adopted like before?

I am guessing it is made by a contract manufacturer to Apples specs. The one for my 5/5s was the same way.

The Apple case is an excellent case. According to the Vaja web site the Vaja is made the same way. Leather over polycarbonate.
Leather can't take a form so its layered over Poly.

The lens protrudes 0.77 mm from the back. Looks like the Apple back is about 1mm. So I'm guessing the poly is 0.4 mm so the ploy remains flexible. The rest is leather and the inside material.

Well, I can't comment on the current Apple case, but the leather case made by Adopted for Apple 5 had developed a crack in it (in the poly) after a little less than a year. Again, not sure if she'd dropped it or not, but if she did it was an easy drop from a few feet. I saw Vaja-clad phone hit rough pavement at 30+ miles an hour and walk away with some scratches on the leather.

Did some research, the Adopted case is not the Apple Case.

A genuine Apple Case will have the Apple logo embossed on the back.

Iirc, the Apple leather case came out at the same time as the 5s, so with the 5 it was the Adopted case as the only leather case Apple sold.

    Makes sense?

Sure does :) It was indeed the only leather case in the Apple store at the time.

I'm thinking the Vaja is thicker and heavier than the Apple case. So the poly or leather is thicker, or both. That would be similar to other leather snap ons I've had for the 4&5 iPhones. Usually the problem from the thickness then becomes evident with flash back into the lens. Looking at the crazy flash opening on the Vaja, they tried to fix that.

The Apple is the finest leather case I've seen. Certainly the thinnest. And at $80, the Vaja is way overpriced.

$80? You must've found a cheap one :) The one my friend has was a $110. Can't comment on the flash back problem, I have never seen him use the flash. Besides it would be useless for the types of shots he takes anyway.

Ordered a clear case by Luvitt. I have their frosted shell on my iPad and the quality is excellent, so decided to give this one a try.

I can see why you purchased it. Hard case? If you don't remove it to often, it probably won't break.

I think it's kind of cool how people have all sorts of different cases.

It's a hybrid, the back is hard and the sides soft. If the lip is like my iPad, it will be good for lay on the table since I typically put my phone screen side down to keep exposure to the screen at a minimum.

At present, the plans are to use the Apple case for travel and job sites and this case otherwise.

We shall see, I love the Apple case so might not be that easy to get away from it.

That texture inside the TPU is to prevent 'water marks': meaning the slight bumps prevent the case from slicking to the inside unevenly, keeping the appearance clear.
Imagine the back appearing with air bubbles and the areas of direct contact with the metal.

    Makes sense?

Vf, which case are you talking about? Yes the reason for the bumps to make sense.

Oh, the flexible clear case that we both have. The one you didn't like. I noted your comment and meant to respond to it for days.

    Oh okay, Thanks.

Actually I threw mine away, couldn't get passed all the things that were wrong with it, glad you got a good one. :)

I used my phone without the case for about 10 minutes communicating via Hangouts with a forumite friend (who doesn't believe in cases). It felt real good in my hands. I was too scared of dropping it, need more practice. Lol.

My Luvitt case should be here by Wednesday, I will post after I get a chance to try it out.

Really? I actually used mine ( the one you had) today. It works fine. Sort of like training wheels before going naked.

Actually that is a perfect use for that thin, TPU case. Just a bit more grin and scratch resistance then naked. Btw, the vendor wrote back that he let me know when the original version is available again.

Mine had too many defects, the two biggest was the impurity smack in the middle of the back and that the holes didn't line up at the bottom.

There were a few other minor ones that I could overlook.

I know the Luvitt case will not be as thin but will be much better quality. Having use Apple Leather Cases for over a year and being used to a quality fit, it's very hard for me to get used to anything.

Who knows I maynot even like the Luvitt case.

That's too bad. Mine is perfect, especially the 6 speaker hole alignment.

I received my Luvitt case today, this is more like it. The case is slightly thicker than the $4.00 TPU case but quality. There are even little bumps on the back for clearance.

I was impressed at first sight, the packaging is well designed and has the CS number right on it. The fit is snug and precise, almost as good as the Apple case. :)

Very happy that you're satisfied mouth the case. The camera cut out being oversized would bug me, and the increased side thickness too.

I get quite a few compliments on my TPU case- unfortunately I have no place to send people to buy it!

Twenty four hours later, I am still really liking this case. I am tempted to say this might offer more protection than the Apple leather case due to the cushioning on the sides.

The fit is perfect and it feels great in my hand as well.

I am sure I will be back to my Apple case soon enough, it is still my favorite, but for now this is it.

Hope to keep it to these two cases.

PS: I like the idea of being able to wipe it with a damp cloth, something I hesitated doing to my leather case.

I am a slave to cases, I'm afraid to admit. It is true, I will change them on a whim.

I love the Apple case, I love my bare minimum clear TPU case. I love using the phone bare, but my ole friend Jonny is just stuck on making beautiful, impractical to hold exteriors. Why can't he knurl the metal sides for a bit of grip?

Anyways, I love the clear TPU; after a few days I tire of the plastic feel. I love the Apple case feeling of smooth leather, but I get bored with the dark brown...I favor lighter tan leathers. The Apple colors are a bit limited. And too much of the iphone is covered.

Regardless, I need something for a bit of grip.

So I ordered the KAVAJ Tokyo case, which is similar to the Apple one, but with open bottom, top and controls. It has a lay on the table lip and better bottom protection because their is a lip there.

Most importantly, it shows off more of the smooth metal sides, and the leather color is light tan (cognac) and doesn't fad. I've had my iPad KAVAJ version for 2 months now, and the protected leather has not aged one iota!!! Plus it is 1/2 price of the Apple case.

The camera slot is nicely proportional to the needed size, and not too deep, just like the Apple case. But still gives same lens protection as the Apple design.

While I wait for the Tokyo, I'm using the KAVAJ Dallas with the flip cover. It is bascially the same as the Tokyo, with the cover. Actually, I'm liking it more and more. Very protective. Love the card slots on the rear, for a parking ticket or something like that.

I'm sure that I will continue to swap them around.

Another case, so how many is that now vf? ;)

Congrats looking forward to your review on it.

The KAVAJ looks like a nice case but not for me, I won't pay to advertise the manufacturer's name. Since I keep my phone face down 75% time of the time, it will be staring at me all that time. :D

I actually like the darker colors in leather, specifically the olive brown from Apple.

Still using the Luvvitt TPU case and liking it, it does have its name embossed as well but it is at the bottom right on the wrap around part and discrete.

Thank you, Charlyee. I really like and prefer the lighter tan leathers on the black or space grey iPhones. A white phone looks very sharp with Midnight Blue.

And the color is what it is. Doesn't seem to change with wear on the KAVAJ

I've read somewhere that some forumites hate even seeing the 'assembled in China' printing on the iPhone 's back ;)

I don't become OCD over the embossed Apple logo or the KAVAJ embossing on the cases. Or the naked iPhone printing. I do hate specks of dust and fingerprints though.

No need for a special review. The Tokyo is the same as the Dallas, minus the flip cover. I thought of saving $25 and cutting it off, but decided I wanted both. I still have more shirts and pants than phone cases

I'm actually really enjoying the flip version in the meantime. Very protected and I can clasp the whole phone without getting fingerprints on the front.

And the flap keeps prying eyes off the notifications screen. :)

Cases are all personal preference, in the end.

I agree cases are totally a personal preference. :)

How do you manage a quick picture with the flip cover? I am too klutzy to be able to manage that and I would either drop the phone or the photo opportunity would be long gone.

It goes as fast as without a flip, why wouldn't it? It's takes a little practice, feeling awkward at first I admit , but works smoothly afterwards . Sometimes the cover can act as a sunshade too. no action photo missed!

Flip covers seem to be more popular in Europe ( at least France and Germany). They seem to be all over. Asia too, among all brands. Samsung has a branded flip that I've seen 3rd party imitations for the iPhone.

The only extra step is to let the flip hang down or to the side. I used a vertical flip with my 5S. Actually the KAVAJ cover is soft enough that you can click the volume control through it easily.

If I had a more on the go, compulsive checking smartphone life style, a flip or sleeve would seem awkward. But those days are over.

On the other hand, sitting at an office desk, a flip is easy to use. No need to turn over the phone for every beep or vibrate. Just flip it open, check, and the flip it closed.

I assume you keep you phone face down at work so as to hide those constant stream of forum notifications from prying, coworker eyes. ;)

Anywho, I got the flip less Tokyo version, but I'm staying with the flip Dallas. Feels very secure.

PS: remember days of yore, when the only elements we knew of where Earth, wind, and Fire....the days of camera flip phones?

Agreed, flip covers are more popular in Europe and Asia. I had a heck of a time juggling with the cover when someone wanted a picture of them near Istanbul, with The Golden Horn as the background. Good thing they were patient. So I was curious as to how you handled it. I had a flip cover for my QTEK 9100, a beautiful Sena case but it didn't have notifications and the camera on it wasn't worth using

I only keep my phone face down when I am around the kitchen, dinette area so nothing bad splatters on the screen.

Work is a sterile environment, at least the office is so no problem there. I like glancing at the notifications as they come in, whether I react to them or not. So putting the phone upside down or using a flip cover would defeat that purpose. I leave the the smart cover on my iPad folded back as well when I am not transporting it.
