So many cases...unending holy grail. But I think I've reached some final solutions...but like clothes...I don't wear the same ones each day...and go naked sometimes too.

My favorite for slimness/features is the Switcheasy Tones. I like the Spiegen Slim Armor too, but it is more bulky than the Tones. However, unlike the Tones, it is very easy to remove and is jet black, not grey like the Tones. And the Slim Armor has very smooth buttons, but the back scratches easily. I'm just 'okay' with the Grip Candy Sheer.

But in the end, I'd prefer the un cased phone. I mean there are some jobs/situations where you need a case..even for my rugged old Nokia's.

So here is a solution to the problems of going naked...I'm been trying it out for a day...and thought to share...

So what do you Mods and Non Super guys use on your iPhones (iphones only please).

    He is my sleeve story:

    DSC00745.JPG DSC00731.JPG DSC00737.JPG DSC00735.JPG

I picked up this real leather wallet sleeve for $25, called the 'Hint'.
iPhone Hint - iPhone 5 Case - iPhone 5 Sleeve - SFBags - WaterField Designs

Designed and made in San Francisco, CA, USA.

I have a Sena Ultra for the iPhone 5. Two things bother me about it. 1) it's a bit short...the top 1/8" of the phone sticks out...so is unprotected. 2) I'm constantly taking the phone out to check messages. That is a real pain...

So I'm trying the Hint, since it has a plastic window and is longer, fulling protecting the phone. Snug, but much easier to insert remove than the Sena. I love Sena and had them for my 3G, 3GS, 4 and 4S.

The plastic works 'okay' to check locked screen messages and you can reply and type an email. But really, this is not a 24/7 bag...you wish to go naked and use this to protect the phone when 1) going through airport security, 2) traveling or 3) just not using the phone.

Fits in men's shirt pocket nicely. Case weights only 26 grams or 0.92 oz.

It also has an elastic band for some money and cards on the back..Or earphones. Inserted either way...I can hear the phone ring nicely.

Another real solution..going naked...what to do with the phone at the bedside. Naked is dangerous. My solution is to keep a case handy, that is easy to slip the phone inside, like the Slim Armor. Another solution is I found very small 3M Bumpons, or 4 slim feet for the back of the phone. Turns out the Hint fits the phone with the feet on, very nicely too! The bumpons are very practical for laying on the table too, during the day. And don't let the phone slip and give some grip in your hand. Either solution works well with the Hint.

Well made, sewing good quality. They could have made it with more rounded corners. Soft interior. The light sensor is not blocked when inserted with bottom end (earphone) on the top opening...other way inserted, the sensor is not blocked, but light needs to hit it at an angle for full brightness. May or may not be a problem for you.

So far I like it for it's slimness and ability to check notifications or calls without taking out of a normal wallet/pouch/sleeve cash. High quality real leather too!

    Nice cases and writeup :)

    I have four cases:

    1. Spigen Ultrathin Air in Crystal Clear
    2. Spigen Ultrathin Air in White
    3. Caze Zero 5 (sent me a replacement for the one that cracked)
    4. Rocketfish opaque soft case with black bumpers from Best Buy.

I use the Spigen ultra thin in Crystal Clear for everyday use and plan to put the Rocketfish when traveling.

Nice selections of cases. It is very hard to find the perfect one. I think with 3D printer becoming cheaper...a business will be had making your own.

I just use a OtterBox Defender. I would love to have my phone be naked but love not having to worry about it much too. So it stays nice and safe in the Otter

So, my Spigen Ultrathin in Crystal Clear cracked at the bottom right corner and supposedly I will be getting a free replacement.

In the meantime I got a generic ultra thin (0.3mm) crystal clear from ebay at $2.45 including shipping. It got here in 3 days. It looks and fits as well as the Spigen and Caze 5, what do I have to lose. :D
I have been thinking of a colored case for my white phone and cannot make up my mind between the Tones dark purple or the Spigen slim armor metal slate, any recommendations?

    Thanks much :)

I have some experience with the 0.3mm cases on my 4S. Look nice, but you need to take them off in a special manner, if you expect them not to break or warp. But they will eventually, if you take it off enough. You can't lose much with that price.

My kid has the white iPhone 5 and the dark purple Tones. It's a really, really nice combo. She hates cases, but this Tones she really likes and keeps it on...6 months now. I have the Tones black, and also the blue. But also, read the Tones manual on how to remove: remove from the SIM sides and not the top or bottom. She didn't and hers split eventually...but they replaced it for free. Claimed the early ones had a defect...but I think otherwise. In the same time frame, by black never split.

I have the slate Slim Armor. I don't think you will be happy with it. I don't use mine at all. I don't think they treated the polycarbonate correctly, so mine scratched the first day...a bit large in width and thickness, too big and slippery also. Buttons are nice though. Finally, front lip is too shallow to be much good, IMO. To confuse you more...the SA has 8 colors now for the poly back. So you can get purple that way too.

I think you will like the dark purple Tones on white...even I do! ;)

Thanks viewfly, I didn't order the Tones because if I understand correctly it is not a shell like the Spigen and I like the shell design, more minimalistic I guess.

I ordered two more cases, an inexpensive opaque purple from the same eBay seller as the crystal clear and an Elago Slim fit 2 in coral blue hoping that color is close to my iPad's blue Smart Cover.

Not sure what a shell is. The two are very similar.

I maynot be using the correct terms, here are pictures of both with the difference circled. Hope that makes more sense, otherwise yes the cases are very similar.

An, I thought you were comparing the Spigen Slim Armor and Tones. The left photo is not the SA

Correct, the left is the Elago Slim Fit 2. Sorry about not being clear.

    Charlyee,

I've had many of those 'shell' cases, and do love them. But I decided to ease my worry about damage to the exposed top and bottom parts and go for the all around protection.

You made a good choice. Here are some good photos that show the fit and color of the Tones case...along with the included port covers (earjack and power). See last photo of the dark purple.
I didn't take the photos, but found them in a forum.

    Thanks viewfly,

I got my no name purple one yesterday and my Elago blue one today. Both colors are pretty true to the posted picture.

The purple is really minimal and flush with the screen. The edges are a bit rough but the finish is non slippery.

The Elago has raised edges similar to the Spigen and with perfect finish. The finish is glossy and slippery like the Spigen as well.

Both are very nice colors and fit perfectly. Two different inexpensive cases $3.65 and $10 and both worth it.

PS: help me decide which one to go with, blue or purple? :)

I am interested in these new Lifeproof cases . Hopefully they come out with models for other devices than just apple . They warranty your phone if you buy one . They are even waterproof.

Those are fine cases. I don't see any hint that Lifeproof plans to expand to non-Apple product lines, however. Far too many products out there. It takes a lot of work to make a case like that, and give that warranty. So far with Apple, one case will fit two model lines, like a 5 and 5S.

Added to my case collection. As my buddy Joe said "someone is going to think your phone is a piece of salmon". :D

Salmon? You mean pink right? Guys don't have that refinement. :)

Welcome to the iPhone. You'll be 'fishing' around for the right case forever.

Just accept that it's like shoes and clothes. One is not meant to use the same one each day. :)

So I picked up a Lifeproof case today. Just to use while standing in rivers and fishing. And the beach. Looks very nice, but I don't plan to use it as an everyday case.
Got a bright color so I can see it. Don't think I'll get the orange float accessory case though.

Thanks vf, the crystal clear one shows scratches but all the others are still good.

Ironically two of my more expensive crystal clear cases case, the Spigen and the Caze are the only two that cracked. They were both crystal clear and were replaced by them. I haven't used the replacements.

Yea, all the clear glossy polycarbonate cases only last a few weeks, and then are all scratched up. I avoid them.

Trying out this case...Poetic Atmospheric for iPhone 5. Polycarbonate back and sides, plus TPU on the sides for bumpers.

Same slimness as the Switcheasy Tones, but translucent back and sides. On Amazon, only $9. Apparently difficult to take off, and the bottom top lip is TPU loose, but I'm okay with that so far, considering how i use my phones. Full coverage top.

I should add the buttons are more responsive than the Tones and the edges rounded too. Has more room for larger earphones since the bottom is more open.

    Nice feel. No smudges.

    Will see. Very popular case.
