In Cape May this past weekend. Sample of coverage as follows: From Carney's Rest./Bar (T Mob sample only) T Mob = No signal Att = marginal; people had to go outside to make calls VZN= more or less full scale; calls totally possible from inside. Att seems marginal over much of the cape area; varies greatly. VZN seems to have the best blanket coverage in this casual test of this area. T Mob was only sampled at one location, but was non existent.
And VZw has a new tower going ON; just North in Avalon, If its not up it will be soon. BUT VZW still stinks on parts of the Boardwalk near Trump and other casinos in AC
All along the south Jersey coast it is hit and miss with all the carriers. Some work fine in some areas and not so great in others. I haven't really found one carrier that seems to be number one down there. Between my T-Mobile and Verizon phones I know I will have a signal though.
Thats one way to do it. ! Have a couple of providers. Well, I'm thinking that at other locations near there T Mob probably would have had signal. I've been thinking of trying them here, which is why I was interested. So when I recognized that one of the guys there had that awful ugly gold 3390............... A recent poll of some kind in the Boston Globe, reports that T Mob now surpasses VZW, for overall customer satisfaction. 71% T Mob 66% VZW I also know that I could back there in a month, and it could be different !
Cingular's TDMA is not bad down there. At least I haven't had any problems the times I've been at Wildwood and AC.
Whilst in Cape May (near the beach near Washington Street mall) I noticed that I got an AMPS B-SID 0008 (Philadelphia metro) signal, presumably from Delaware across the bay instead of staying on the Atlantic City SID 0250 system. I'm not sure the Delaware derived signal was usable though, but I thought it strange nonetheless.
i can agree with the cingular tdma working pretty good down at AC and the shore in general. I havent had my verizon down there but i will soon.
I have Cingular with a regional plan. It's almost always running on ATT's network, their agreement, which is frustrating, as it changes whether or not people must dial my area code to get me. I don't think it was on Cingular network much at all while down there. Which is part of the reason I'm looking for new service. The network. simply isn't there in places I want it to be. Anyway, check out all the water tanks and whatnot as you drive around. Cellular arrays are everywhere.
Signals travel incredibly far over water....so it is not surprising to pick up Delaware from Cape May.
I am in the North Cape May area often, and have found great success with the Sprint PCS network when I'm in town. However, the service does not work when I'm actually on the beach (either Cape May or North Cape May/Villas). I am searching for a better network and signal strength. Suggestions?
Cingular and AT&T's TDMA signal at Wildwood is provided by Cingular Site 76, a two-sectored site on a lattice tower. 0.2 mi NNW of E Schellenger & New Jersey Ave. One of the 4 panel sectors points up the shore and other points down. 800 MHz control channels are 201 and 206, and I'm assuming a HELL of a lot of voice channels, since that was the only tower I was picking up until I started to leave Wildwood the next day.
My AT&T phone does not work down the Jersey shore With AT&T it would be hours before I would get my voice mail., my company switched over to Verizon and I now have no problems anywhere down the shore.
