    hi,

i can't seem to connect to t-mobile (or cingular for that matter) with my new zealand vodafone pre-pay SIM card. i arrived in los angeles on XMAS and am now in colorado, and haven't been able to connect in any city i've been in - the phone shows cingular and t-mobile networks are available, but it just keeps trying to connect or says limited service, and i can't receive or send texts or calls. i set up roaming with vodafone before i left NZ, and they said it should just connect automatically when i arrive in the US. i do have a t-mobile SIM for local stuff when i'm here, but just wanted to be able to receive NZ texts while i'm here.

in case it matters, it's a siemens C65 and it's unlocked.

going into local stores and talking to call centers here in the US hasn't helped (they all say it's a vodafone NZ problem), and vodafone NZ hasn't emailed a reply to my email from last week...

any ideas? i'm sad that i've probably lost some texts in the meantime cause don't they 'die' after a few days if they haven't been delivered? and i'm a newbie so please be gentle :)

and i'm also posting this in a couple other branches cause i'm not
sure which is the best one - sorry if you're seeing this again!

    thanks for any help!!

Wow, you actually managed to post a question NO ONE can answer! I'm impressed!

Seriously, though, I think everyone really is stumped--I know I have absolutely no
clue why this is happening to you. Sorry. :(

mimmik; I'm not familiar with the Siemens phone you have but my first question what bands does it have available. If it's 900/1800 then there's your problem. If it has 850/1900 then try going into the settings and do a manual netwrok selection. That could help things. Also you could put your Vodaphone SIM back in and select call forwarding and forward all calls (including SMS) to your T-Mobile number. Hope this will help.:D

It's 900/1800/1900, so it should work. I believe the phone would have to register on the network before call forwarding can be enabled. It sounds as if the roaming was not enabled properly or there is some sort of outage (I have seen it once with my Riiing SIM when for several days it wouldn't register on any network, then it magically fixed itself).

Actually in alot of areas without 850 it won't work if Cingular is the only roaming partner.:(

hey, i often have a talent for unanswerable q's in life, but thanks for all the ideas anyway :)

    altho i think the c65's been discontinued, it's def a tri-band:

and just remembering that i have a british virgin (the company!) SIM card that has roamed in at least 7 countries besides the UK in the past 18 months, so it's looking like vodaphone is the culprit - guess i'll have to go ahead and bite the bullet and call them in NZ, aarrrgghh!!!

True, but the OP's issue wasn't that the phone can't see the network -- it's that it can't register on it.

I was going to ask you if you knew whether or not Vodaphone NZ permitted internationally roaming on their prepaid accounts....

Look what I dug up: Vodafone NZ Prepaid Roaming. Looks like a credit card setup is required for countries other than Australia, Fiji, UK & Spain.
