Although I do little actual internet surfing on my phone, I use data for real time traffic & weather updates, and email. I also regularly listen to streaming internet radio on the phone. No data would negatively impact my lifestyle.

I would be willing to try if it meant saving $40, but I doubt I could hold off. If I had to think about cutting data I would take a look & test other carriers to see if they would served me better. :)

2 things are at work here...

    1. I'm on a grandfathered $19.99 unlimited data plan for smartphones.

    2. I write off my cell phone bill as a business expense.

If it wasn't for those I might be more willing to try living without data.

Been without it for a long time. Then again, I haven't had a phone worthy of paying for data...In the near future I do see a smartphone with a (mandatory) data plan, so my "Yes" could change to a "NO".

I use data on my BB while we are out on tours. I am able to check the weather, receive company and personal emails, and chat with friends on BBM. ;)

I voted yes... I was on pay-as-you-use data on Verizon for a year. Then in April, I went and got an enV Touch, which requires a minimum $10 data plan. I like data, but I rather minimize the costs. I didn't like Verizon's selection of dumbphones so I decided to spring for this one despite the $10/mo fee. I am just glad I got this phone for $40 (I just missed the $20 sale by mere hours)... If I had to pay more for a device, I would either get a PDA and data plan, or stay with my previous phone (the Samsung Glyde)... If PPU data was an option for my phone, I would have stuck with that option. PPU/$10 data is just a low(er) cost alternative to $24/month

Jay, on the other thread "what is your data usage", you voted less than 5Gb per month (and more than 3Gb).

That is 3.5 to 6 hours of streaming internet music a day! Impressive! I used ATT's data calculator.

Well, that's not just streaming music. If I want to surf the internet I tether to my laptop,

My data usage mostly comprises of streaming music, tethering, and weather & traffic updates.

I think I could do it. I vow to give up data for 6, no wait, 7. Yeah that's it, I'll give up data for 7 straight hours! Good night all. :D

I love getting my work email & especially calendar pushed to my phone - so I don't think I could go without data. I would be lost without my calendar telling me where I was supposed to be at various times.

Overnight would be the only time I don't use it.

Technically, I suppose I could live without data, but what kind of a life would it be? No reading CNN or InformationWeek on my phone, no Shazam to check what music is playing in a bar, no reading the Wikipedia article about the artist I had barely heard of, no settling arguments with friends by checking IMDB, no posting on WA!?!

I could probably get used to surviving without a lot of technology (except refrigeration and indoor plumbing ;)), but it wouldn't be the kind of life I want. So I voted No.

BTW, "unlimited" data + 400 messages is $24.99 for my G1 on T-Mo.

Yes... I COULD live without data. I'm still using my Palm Centro, which is basically only good for email and Internet/WAP sites without Java, Flash, or any advanced features. Heck... come to think of it, I'm already ALMOST without "data"... ;)
