Im not familiar with cricket, but what u can do is, on your comp with windows, do a seem edit to turn on the menu option that lets you "apply as ringtone". It sounds like it is off on your phone. You cant use a Mac to do seem edits, so u will need Windows. The seem edit should be:

Seem 2742, Record 1, Bytes 0, Offset: 75, Bit 4 - Make sure box is UNCHECKED to have this option enabled on your phone.

If thats not it, let me know and we can try something else.

Yep, that works. Once u get into the seem edit program called p2kseem, let me know if that option is already enabled or not

    ok, no luck...
The checkbox WAS UNCHECKED.. I decided to check it, save to phone, then uncked it, save to phone, in the hopes something would take, but it didn't.. It was the right one, as it had a notation about a apply as tone menu otion...

Where is this menu option? from the text message, I can choose to store the file. When I do, it goes to the VIDEOS menu, and from there I can work with it.. any more thoughts?

Yea, i dont know how the file system is setup on cricket firmware, but for verizon, it needs to be stored in the AUDIO folder. When highlited, u can click options->apply as ringtone. It is def b/c its in ur videos folder. Do u have the option to MOVE to transflash card, and then go to ur audio folder and select MOVE to phone?

    edit:

    is it a v3m from cricket? or a v3c?

    It's a V3c

What's weird is if I store the file, I can not actually find it. If I go to either the Sounds or Videos list, it doesn't show up. If I store the file from the message, play it, choose options, it says the Type is Unknown, and the Catagory is MMS...

Can I send the file using p2kCommander? I've been reading about it.. Maybe?

Yes, this might be a good option for you. The problem with adding files such as ringtones with p2kcommander is that the sound database reference files need to be deleted so they become updated. If u add something in P2kcommander, the phone doesnt really know they are there til you manually refresh its "audio file list" for a lack of a better term. The two files would be MyToneDB.db and TmpTneDB.db. See the attached screen shot.

You will need two programs. Both are free.

    1) Motorola Software Updater (MSU) - Puts the phone into the correct mode to use p2kcommander and p2kseem (editing seems)

    2) P2kCommander 3.2.2 or 3.2.6 - The program to browse the phones file system

You can get them here -> http://www.hacktherazr.com/downloads.html

Open MSU first, it will install 4 drivers. Let it automatically choose the drivers. Once its installed properly, it should be displaying your phones ESN.

Then leave that open and open P2kCommander (it wont run without MSU). On the top, select P2k Mobile Phone on one pane, doesnt matter which one. Open the a/ folder and browse to your audio folder, and add the audio file you want to use as a ringtone. Once done, go back to the a/ folder and search for those 2 files (see screenshot attached). Delete them. Restart the phone, and you should be able to see the audio file you added, and hopefully set it as a ringtone. It should be able to be either an mp3 or midi file, your choice. Just put it in the folder where see all the other files u can typically "apply as ringtone"

Just keep in mind, it will most likely reset your ring style settings. If you have certain ringers for certain profiles, it might set them back to default. But in any event, its a good alternative if u dont wanna buy Motorola Phone Toools.

(For the v3m) I'm wondering what that seem edit does, the apply as ringtone one? It seems like my phone places all the audio files that could possibly be allowed as ring tones in the same place, and the other stuff goes in the music library to be played through "manage music" or whatever. If an audio file is compatible to be played as a ringtone, it seems like my phone already gives me this option. Where would this apply as ringtone option be, and what would it let me apply as ringtones?

I noticed some weird things regarding text messaging ring tones. First, they are lowww quality and leave much to be desired. I didn't have any idea HOW low until I heard a high quality song play through the same little phone speaker. WORLDS of difference!!

Also, I was texting myself ringtones, and the first time it worked, and the second time it worked, and after that, it totally stopped working! My phone would look like it was loading the message for a while, but then it would say no audio attached! Very weird. The paranoid in me was thinking that verizon caught on to what I was doing and stopped me in my tracks, haha. Anyways, no need to do that anymore as I'm transfering my ringtones through mpt and they sound a million times better than the texted ones.

... hope at least SOME of what I blabbed about was applicable to the subject at hand...?

Poly, the seem editing process was designed for V710. A lot of the descriptions you see dont necessarily enable or disable the features it describes. This is kind of makeshift for the razr, but still works. So you cant really go by the descriptions of each of the Bits. The feature is already enabled, so we wouldnt need it anyways.

If you txt someone a ringtone, and its bad quality, try converting it to a .midi file. I have heard this helps. A lot of the times sending a ringer in a text turns it into a .qcp file, and it plays it out of the wrong speaker. Thats neither here nor there, you now have it setup the way you need it ;)

Yeah, it did turn it into a .qcp, but I gave up trying cause it took so long to send it and then for my phone to receive it. I'm just stoked that I can make all my own now and transfer them and get high quality and not have to pay verizons outrageous prices!

Can you even buy just a RINGTONE from verizon? Because I went to get it now and chose ringtones, and I was taken to the vcast store where I could get one tone for like three bucks!! I can't imagine that's JUST a ringtone, it has to be the whole song for the phone plus a download of the whole song to your computer? Otherwise Verizon are bigger robbers than I first thought.

Yea, its 2.99 for 1 ringtone! something like 5.49 for 2, and 7.99 for 3...it is absolutely crazy. And say ur phone breaks and its out of warranty, u LOSE those ringers. It is absolutely rediculous. Verizon - "We never stop working you" they forgot the "for" between working & you

$2.99 for ONE ringtone is the most ridiculous thing I've EVER heard! You know, I probably wouldn't have done a single mod to my phone if it weren't for my desire to make my own ringtones to avoid their insane charge... and that lead me to make nearly every possible mod there is and discover even more ways that I can get around all their charges. If they weren't doing such ridiculous things to get more money out of us, we might actually not deviate so much from the stock stuff they provide!
