Hello! I'm new here and fairly unfamiliar with cell phones. I hope someone can walk me through how I can get my LG VX7000 (no longer under contract to Verizon) to connect to the American Roaming Network. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to find out how to get into the "programming" menu. I'm not sure how to do that with LG but do a search and try to find how to get to programming mode. With Nokia phones you key *3001#12345#. Once you're there program NAM1 for 478 000 0000 and NAM2 to 123 456 7890. From that point forward if you attempt any "chargeable" call it will go to the American Roaming Network where you can make calls for $2 setup charge and $2/minute. You can sign up with ARN and get a subscription that will bring the per minute cost to 30 or 40¢/minute. With ARN you can only make outgoing calls. Also, with a carrier-free phone you can call 911 at no charge.

older LG's can have there nam accesed by pressing 0 in the menu. altho, ARN aint exactly the most afordable out there, if its a CDMA phone and you dont want a contract, you can use pageplus, they run on verizons network, its prepaid, no contract, you can just add 10 bucks and it'll be ready to use when you need it for 4 months. altho, ARN may still comeup if you roam onto a network that dosen't have a roaming contract with verizon, mainly small regonal carriers.

This phone has two NAMs. You can change NAMs from the user menu. System/Network/Set NAM More than likely the second NAM is not programmed. Switching tow this un programmed NAM should force the phone to American Roaming

ARN has airtime for as little as $.25/min and it does not expire for one year.

Thank you to each of you. Unfortunately, nothing has worked yet.

Telekom: Analogman was right. I can access the programming menu by clicking menu, then, zero. I tried programming the NAMs with the numbers you suggested, but I didn't get anything--not even a dial tone to call 911.

Analog Man: Thank you for telling me how to access the programming menu. As I understand it, PagePlus will cost $10 every 4 months which would mean $40/year. ARN only costs $10/year if and when I need it. I may not use the service (and knock wood won't need it) at all. I just want to have access if the need arises.

Carl4662: Thanks for trying. I thought that should work too. You were right. The second name is "empty," but I guess it's still programmed to Verizon because switching to it and trying to make a call gave me Verizon's "problem resolution message," that is a need to re-validate my phone.

So I have a new question. If I go to one of those guys who removes software (often to put pageplus on) and I have them remove Verizon software, do you think the phone will then be able to access ARN or just be an inoperable paperweight? :loony: If the software is removed and I can get ARN, will I still be able to use the camera? As always any help would be appreciated, and a great big thank you to those who've already tried to help me! :)

Having the phone flashed to another carrier will fix your problem. I suggest that you have it flashed to Prefer Sprint for best ARN roaming results While you should be able to use the camera you will not be able to do anything with the picture unless you can use a cable to download them into your computer.

PS I sent you a private message
