I tried to call England on my Sprint phone. Didn't work. You have to call customer service and order the ability to make international calls. Then the calls are expensive. AT&T, who I also have an account with. only charges 35 cents per minute. Any other service providers have an international phobia?
on tmobile you have to add international dialing to dial out overseas. or if you are going there you have to add international roaming. rates vary according to the place that you go. however i can get very expensive !
35 cents/min is a very low rate for an international call. I think most companies will be expensive like Sprint.
.35 a minute for international calls, that's great, now if i could only get signal at home with my Att-cell phone.
Did you have to add a feature with additional cost to get that $0.35/min cost to call England? The last time I spoke to customer care about rates to England i was told that with the basic international dialing feature it was $1.59/min.
My AT&T service is the multi-band national network, I think I have about 550 anytime minutes. I call England ,France, Germany for 35¢. Bill says it is a discounted rate, I do not pay extra. Monthly service is $34.99. International roaming calls from Europe are $1.29 minute. What does T-Mobile and Cingular charge for similar service? I don't know.
Depending on where you call. The World-Class service (international dialling and international roaming, it's one option) is free subject to creditworthiness. I have it. Canada and Guam are $0.20. Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy and the Holy See, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand (including part of Antarctica), Norway, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK are all $0.29. Austria, Brazil, the Cayman Islands, Chile, Cyprus, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Malaysia, Monaco, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, Venezuela, and the Virgin Islands (Brit and US) are $0.59. Most of the rest of the world is $0.99 or $1.49, except for places that are either remote, have little infrastructure, or with whom the U.S. has embargoes or other diplomatic quibbles. $2.49 to Antartica (Norfolk & AET), Ascension Island, Christmas Island (Kiritimati), Cocos & Keeling Islands, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritius, Morocco, and the Seychelles $3.49 to Iraq and St. Helena $3.99 to Afghanistan, Madagascar, North Korea, and Somalia $8.99 to Inmarsat phones (ship-to-shore phones)
It's hardly a "very low" rate -- TMO charges 29c. Back in the duopoloy days you could choose your own long distance carrier, just as you can for a fixed line, and you could pay as little as 10c (sometimes even less)
At one time I think there was an advertiser on the WA site offering an 800 call forwarding number that had Europe at something like 3 or 4 cents a minute. I looked for the ad today, but didn't see it. A royal pain to dial an extra 10 or 11 numbers, but it was cheap.
Now, did anyone of you guys ever think of using a Calling Card?? Of course, on weekdays it would take away your anytime minutes, but if you call international a lot on weekends, a calling card would be much cheaper than paying 29c or 35c or whatever you guys pay. The Calling Card I have is called Neda and only costs 5c to anywhere in Europe, so if you guys call a lot on weekends that would be better than paying 29 or 35c, because for most of us, weekends and even nights are unlimited...Just a thought...
Not sure if anyone is still interested, but you can sign up with the international calling plan through Sprint that costs $10/month, so that your international calls are cheaper. I call the UK on a daily basis, and it costs me only 13 cents/minute with their plan. If you want to use calling cards, then I would suggest BigZoo.com. It costs me about 3 cents/minute to call a land phone in the UK--I think it's about 30 cents/minute to call a mobile. You won't get any charges through Sprint using the plan, but it will use your minutes.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I'm currently using VIP Communications and paying 29 cents/min to India. This'll give me 16 cents If I indeed do sign up and you want a referrel, email me your particulars. Matt
Hey that's great Matt! I've tried so many long distance providers and calling plans over the years, but Big Zoo beats the majority of them. Just watch out when calling a mobile phone because the rates are usually much higher.
