The fires are about 7 miles from where i'm at, specially over the mountain hill in the Sylmar area, not sure if there's anyone on the boards that lives in the San Fernando Valley...

I will second that. I saw the fires last night on our local news. I too hope that our California members and their family and friends stay safe.

Luckily no major fires around here this time. Seems like there's always one near here every time it's windy.

Yes, your sister is FAR from where the fires are.

I was in the Inland Empire area the past few days and the winds created a monumental mess. Power and cable TV outages were rampant and the winds were some of the strongest I've seen in years. There were even a couple of fires in San Bernardino, one on the 215 freeway median (forcing a complete freeway shutdown) and one just north of that on Little Mountain.

Wind gusts were up to 75 miles an hour in some IE areas. They were about 40 to 50 mph where I was. The blowing dust was nasty. There were times visibility was zero. The first major Santa Ana Wind event of the year is usually a blowing dust nightmare.

And to think this is only the beginning of the Santa Ana Wind season...

The wildfires were very interesting for me, both at work and at home. If anyone was watching them on the fire, there is a good chance that you saw my house on TV several times. Luckily my neighborhood ended up OK, but the media sure had a field day showing the embers flying over us.
