OK, really, this is just about me venting. Everyone gets in this mentality where its FREE FREE FREE or no phone for me..... AAAAA!!!!!! In Europe, plans don't even matter. Minutes are cheap. They sell PHONES. Everyone comes in here wanting a cool phone for free. If people would realize you get what you pay for, then they would fork out some cash. I mean, even $40 for a Samsung R225.... but GET SOMETHING NICE!!!!!!

Now before I get 10 million angry responses.... I know some people just want a 60 miniute/month plan, so OK, you don't need an upgrade. But I get so many people coming back on their Motorola T193's saying why doesnt this work.... BECAUSE YOU, SIR, ARE CHEAP!!!! Ok, i am calming down. Lets tell everybody to buy better phones. So this is rather a firmly quoted opinion, but hey, I hate when people want everything for nothing.

    Opinions?

I would have to agree with you! It amazes me how many people come in and ask, "What phone comes with that?" COMES with that! The attitude and expectations in this industry now are just phenomenal. No one expects to have to pay for anything. How exactly is that supposed to work? Since when do you really get something for nothing? It just doesn't work. And those same people will ask, "Is it a good phone?" If its free, can it really be THAT great? Sometimes it is not a bad phone, but I look at all the problems I have seen with the Motorola T193..horrendous! It's like buying a car, or a stereo, or a TV. Yeah, the cheap one will serve its purpose, but it may not work as well, last as long, etc. You totally get what you pay for!

Spending a little bit of money on a phone is a worthwhile investment, because you will get an up to date phone that has way more options and features. With the way this industry is going, things get outdated so quickly! I mean, I bet people thought analog would stick around forever. Look how that got phased out and digital came in and took over. (Yes, I know analog is still used by certain carriers in certain areas.) A few years ago, who would have thought you could access the Internet from a wireless phone? Now you can send email, take pictures, view everything in color, have polyphonic ring tones, etc!

Maybe I am too much of a technology nut, but I like the phones with the options. And given the right education, and a knowledgeable sales person, most other people will too!

But of course, this is just my opinion! [IMG]

I would think, for most people, wireless web is absolutely useless. These are phones, not cameras or computers. Their primary use is for voice. So why can't the carriers focus on this and get it right before they move on and add a bunch of other useless items. For example, Sprint is notorious for a very weak network, and yet they are so focused right now on their Vision program, they have forgotten to put out phones that work. Their Sanyo phnes are the only ones worth looking at, and they still are not that much to smile about. I think carriers need to get their networks much better established, with no dropped calls at least in metro areas and then they can move on. But I don't see them anywhere close.

Also, the carriers themselves and not the consumers have brought us to where we are today. Each one offers free phones, or major rebates, so what do you expect the consumer to expect.

The people with the same emblem as brochick seem to be affliliates somehow - they both bring up topics that get everyone riled over and like to start rude conversations and have no plain logic in reasoning..

I am a firm believer of the phrase "you get what you pay for". For the most part, it is true. However if you know how to shop around. Youll quickly realize that for cell phones, this is simply not always true (at least for sprint phones). Many of the $100 phones perform better than $300 phones. Only difference, is the $300 phones usually look much nicer.

But You are absolutely right, i cant stand people who always look for the cheap way out, and then complain and whine like a mofo when they are not satisfied with what they get.

On the whole I have to agree. People want to pay nothing and then they wonder why that phone was priced that way. I'm the first one to admit to this too somewhat (bought a v60g on amazon waiting for the rebates). If they priced the phones properly and afordable people would be happy to pay. I work for place that sells these phones to. That same phone retails on our system for 475.00. When someone signs up we take off 175.00. So now that phone is 300.00. Now maybe you have 3 C bills to blow on it, I don't. Now if it wan't for the rebates I would be looking for a much cheaper phone (with probally less features and worse performance). The price points for the phones are what keeping people from getting better.

I am with you on this one Poetic... I was just wondering this week why all the cool phones with zillions of features come out overseas and we don't see 'em for another 2-3 years... I believe its because of this mentality. No one here seems to want to pay a decent amount of money for a quality phone when they can get a free phone that "looks" similar. However, I also agree with the anonymous poster that said the carriers themselves are responsible. It has been beat into our heads that we should expect a free phone when you sign up for cellular service, hence that is what people expect. I also think with the proliferation of mall kiosks for cellular sales, many people are buying on impulse. Free phone, free activation, free accessories, all you pay for is the tax on the phone and you walk away connected. It's a different story to walk up to one of those kiosks and write a check for $300... not quite an impulse purchase for most of us!

Funny you should say that MrNokia... I have been thinking the same thing about you for a few days now. You seem to have an opinion on everybody and everything. I especially love it when you get into it with the moderator and tell him to cool it! [IMG]

It's very obvious to me that poetic7folly, and BroChick are the same individual or at least somehow related. I could easily check their IP adress to prove this but so far I haven't been interested enough to do that.

I agree... I almost never get the free phone unless I know it's a tried/true phone. If they were handing out Nokia 6190's, and I didn't care about anything than making phone calls, I'd so jump on it.

I generally try to buy Motorola since (in my exp. in selling them years ago) they make up in durability for what they lack in functionality.
