Finally moving to a smartphone after resisting for a long time. I am looking at the Samsung Rugby Pro. With a 2 year contract, AT& T wants $99.99. Walmart for the same phone and 2 year commitment wants 97 cents. Is there any advantage to buying at the AT&T store or should I go with Walmart and save almost 100 bucks?

I don't believe there is any advantage of buying from AT&T. I have never purchased from Walmart but have from Best Buy a couple of times for the same reason as you and no restocking fee.

Hope that helps. Good luck and have fun with your Smartphone :)

I've always get a better deal buying from an independent shop than buying direct from AT&T.

Resellers such as Wal-Mart or Amazon may have additional restrictions on use of the telephone and features. There may extra fees if you change certain features prior to one hundred eighty-one days.

Ended up buying from AT&T for $100 vs 97 cents from Walmart.

Reason: Model was not in stock but available in 3 days; not sure they could transfer my directory list from the old to the new phone.

And the biggest reason: I get a pretty good discount on the monthly rate because I am a retiree from an AT$T legacy company and that discount would not be continued if I signed a 2 year contract thru Walmart. That discount is worth a lot more than $100 over 2 years.

It took me an hour at Walmart to get this information as the rep. kept calling to get answers. I was in and out of the AT&T store in less than 30 minutes with the new phone up and working.

Thanks for the update, I guess it doesn't always work out the same way for everyone.

Have fun with your new Smartphone.

Interesting. I'm also a former ATT employee. Although getting a small pension, I can't really say I retired. I don't get any brake on my phones when buying at ATT store. In fact, in the past 2 years, I've bought 3 Samsung smartphones, all from Best Buy. Recently, I upgraded my Note2 to the Note3. I was only one year into my 2-yr contract, so the cost came completely out of my pocket. $850 for the phone. Best Buy bought back my Note2 for $250. Final cost $600 out of my pocket.
