My friends conract is up in June. He has a 2K plan with N/W and "In" (or whatever VZW calls PCS-2-PCS). He has 3 phones on his account sharing minutes. What is retention offering these days? Or what is a standard discount for him to ask for? Would 10% off the bill, 2nd phone charge free, and unlimited Picture Pack or Internet be too much to ask of Retention? And please, spare me the moralizing. Retention is there to reward existing customers with good deals on renewals so they STAY existing customers. It's the only decent break existing customers get. TIA VZW d00ds!!!
Verizon does not have any 'retention' program. With over one Million adds each quarter they are not in fear of losing customers without a gimmick. Good coverage is their 'gimmick.' Only Sprint PCS has seen a need for a "Retention" program. They will, however, clue you in on the current promotions, the same they will offer to a new customer, which you can get if you renew your contract.
That's not entirely true. T-Mobile has a customer retention program, and so does (gasp) VZW! Sprint, for its part, no longer has a retention department; they have a few, fixed retention plans that are offered to good customers who are out of contract. If you want to get the best deal from VZW, call 611 and follow the prompts to cancel your service. You'll reach their retention department, who can give you a better deal than the normal retail deals. However, don't expect them to give you much. As Bill noted, VZW is not hurting for customers and if you ask for too much, they will usually just let you go. So forget about negotiating for free unlimited SMS, 7pm nights, or any of the other things you could do with carriers who are more willing to make deals.
You probably may know this for $5 you can get unlimited text, picture and video messaging to another VZW customer.
Actually around here you can TXT, PIX and FLIX "IN" for free if you sign up for the current promotion (may require contract extension if you are not in the first 2 months of your contract).
And that's his problem with Verizon. It's only for "In"...and everyone he knows are on different carriers So he uses BitPim and email. Kludgey but effective.
