One thing I have not been able to figure out since getting the iPhone: is there a way to have an active BT connection to a "headset" (my car) for phone audio only? My car only has BT for phone audio, so no media connectivity. On Android, I could select phone audio only and still use the headphone jack for audio out through the auxillary cable. I cannot seem to do this on the iPhone, so I have to choose between connecting to BT and listening to the radio or a CD or using my aux cable and not being able to use my phone while driving. Kind of annoying.
I only have used the Apple pin out or earphone jack for AUX audio in my car...coupled with a Jawbone BT ear set. My car doesn't have BT. My experience, if of any use: Music will only come out from the pin out/earphone jack or the BT set. So while I'm driving I leave the phone's BT on, but the Jawbone off...and listen to music. When a phone call comes in, switching on the Jawbone will mute/pause the music and connect the call through the Jawbone. It does it quick enough to catch the call. When the call is over, and I turn the Jawbone off, it switches back to the music and un pauses. Leaving the Jawbone on, will have the music go through the Jawbone.
Thanks VF. That's sort of unfortunate because my car BT is always on so your method is not an option. Maybe Apple will catch up to Android in this regard come iOS 8 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Ah I see. When a call comes in doesn't the phone pop up with a menu allowing you to chose where to take the call? iPhone , BT or speaker. That's what I remember when I had the BT on. My memory is a bit fuzzy though. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk Pro
It does. I suppose I could try turning on BT on the phone, then disconnecting it from the car, playing audio through my aux cable, and then if a call comes in, attempt to reconnect to my car. I'll try that tomorrow...if I can remember. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Yes indeed it does work I had an early 7 am appointment today, so was in my car and tried (with my home phone). Turned on BT (using iOS 7 Siri for the first time to do so). 1. plugged in my earphone to AUX input on my car 2. Turned on and connected my BT JawBone device 3. Played music on the iPhone 4. Music came through Jawbone...Swipe up Control Center (AirPlay) and changed over to iPhone...music now coming through car stereo. 5. Called my cell phone. Answered phone...on phone displayed switched over to Jawbone. 6. hung up calling phone...iPhone automatically switched back to AUX and played music. Pretty much the way I remember it working in iOS 6 too. There was no Control Center, but a different, special menu came up that did the same thing during a received call. If I had a fancy car with a on BT board mic, I guess I would just talk through that and not switch over? That would be your case I presume. The cell audio was already coming through the AUX system, and I was able to use the iPhone microphone (i.e. speakerphone, with audio out going to my car stereo). Seems well thought out to work together.
Yes! This method works. A few more steps than on android...not totally hands free, but it's acceptable
Great! That should make things useable. I used 'one' earbud when my Best Buy audio cable died. I discovered then that I could take calls directly from the music player, without extra steps. Now, using my AUX out, the 1/8" cable doesn't fit with the NEO case on. So I use the little cable that came with my Bose headset; its 1/8" end (its male-> female cable) fits with the NEO cable on. The other end goes into my AUX cable. I then realized that the 'mic controller' on that Bose cable actually works! So I can answer and talk through a mic closer than the phone's speaker...and here the audio through my car stereo. Sort of a hard wired hand's free system. So no extra steps with that method either. Or I just use the Jawbone. Glad it solved a problem for you, AnthroMatt
