I just got a Samsung A930 w VZ and I am wondering about the Bluetooth earpieces. Do they have to be the same brand as the phone? I hope not b/c the Samsung ones are quite expensive Does price matter on the earpieces (i.e. does less $$ == piece of trash device)? I am thinking about getting the Moto HS815 or the One of the Jabras (Body Glove EarGlove BlueVoice Bluetooth Headset 7810001) from the LetsTalk website. They have those for $30 each. I know that VZ blocks almost all profiles but I could care less b/c I have no computer and the like and I am only using the Bluetooth as handsfree. I also see that some operate on regular AAA batteries, some operate on rechargeable batteries. If they have to be recharged, do they come w/ a charger? Which is betterIf these earpieces are not great what do you all recommend? I just want functionality w/o paying huge sums of money!
The brand of the headset does not matter. I personally have the Motorola HS820 which since it is an older model can be had rather cheaply. The last one I bought I paid about $15 on Ebay for it. It is a very high quality unit and comes with a charger. In my experience my HS820's work well over 100 feet. I have tested this with the following phone models: Moto V551, V3, and HP iPAQ 6515. -Jay
Thanks, J2TR. I havent decided what headset I'm going to buy yet. I checked out Ebay and some sellers have reasonably priced equipment, but the shipping ($10-40) is outrageous I know that it cant possibly cost that much to ship one item! If I dont see one on Ebay, I'll just pick one one off Letstalk and pay $35 total and be done with it. Posters, please continue posting which BT you recommend
The reasons sellers do that is because they don't pay Ebay any portion of the S&H fees, just the final sale price. If you look some phones out there on Ebay have $99.99 S&H fees, and the final value of the auction is only $20. The seller is only paying a percentage of $20, and the rest stays in their pocket. -jay
Be careful when you buy some Bluetooth headsets off of ebay. There have been some knock-offs being sold.
A knock off is like one of those fake rolex watches. They look like real ones but are not the actual headset made by the manufacturer. There have been people who have bought some motorola Bluetooth headsets off of ebay that look like the real ones but they were actually fake. They may work but I wouldn't trust them
Well, I tried the Jabra 150 ($50, all black); I had a hard time turning the thing on and off. Additionally, I didn't like the fit on my ear and I tested it out on the bus and I could barely hear out of the thing. Pairing was simple. Needless to say, that one went back to the store. The store rep suggested another one that has the earpiece going into the ear but the price, $108, was well beyond my budget. I checked out Ebay and I didnt like the total prices; also, it didnt help that I kept getting outbid I went to Amazon and bought the Moto HS820 for $30 (including shipping) and hopefully it'll work out. I also noticed that Moto was selling the same discontinued earpiece for $50
The Moto HS820 is a fantastic headset and I am sure you will be pleased. HS820's are all I use when I take headsets apart for their circuit boards when I am building projects. -Jay
I got and tested the HS820 yesterday and this morning... and so far its good. The audio was choppy at times but the other party didn't notice (or didn't care); the audio quality wasnt bad enough for me to toss it. I tested it on the bus and it was fine. Now only if I can test it on the louder (and older) bus in town.... The Moto had a better fit and I think that sealed the deal for me. The small size is great; the Jabra 150 is huge in comparison and it was about to fall off my ear. Too bad that this Moto can only be worn on the right ear, unlike the Jabra. Also, powering on/off, pairing and connection were easy too. Is it normal for the audio to be choppy at times, or is it choppy due to operator error? Too bad I cant listen to music and videos on this thing but I guess VZ blocked this feature or it is unavailable
I just bought the Moto HS700 (still waiting for it). But the price ranged from $45-120, with Amazon and others being the cheapest. HS700 has the latest in noise canceling features. Then I found out from reading questions to the vendors that the lower priced ones are the older 'A' versions that had problems with BT, esp. or mainly for Verzion CDMA type phones. The newer 'B' versions fixed the problems, but are more expensive. So I'm under the impression now that the cheaper prices may be attempts to unload partially defective inventory. Even from Amazon. It is interesting that many of vendors ignored requests to specify whether it is A or B. Be careful. If you have problems, you may wish to send it back.
You can reverse the HS820 for wear in either ear. The ear clip snaps off, and reverse it. Then turn off the unit. Hold in the top volume button in while powering it on. This will reassign the Volume Up button for left ear use. -Jay
Oh ok. I just found that out. I had to download the PDF manual from the Motorola site because there wasnt a true manual in the packaging.
My kids bought me an H500 for Father's Day and I have just been loving it! They got it from Tiger Direct, shipped to my house for less than $36.
Cool... so far, I have no major complaints with the 820 I would like something more modern, but I'll just have to be happy with what I have lol I do have a small question. Is it normal to hear static in the earpiece? It happens occasionally though. What can I do to keep this to a minimum?
i have 2 blue tooths, and dont normanly hear static, unless i get to far away. i have the moto hs810, and its my fav, i also have the m3000 by plantronics it ok, kind of bulky tho.
Like walkguru says, mine does not normally get static unless I get to far away from it or I got under some really powerful electrical lines, which is very rare.
Like everyone else says, static is not normal. I usually only get static when I'm over 100 ft away from the phone, or there's several walls/floors between me & the phone. -Jay
Just when I have fallen in love with the thing... the few times I have heard static I wasnt far from the device (once, I was in my kitchen which is 10' away from the phone; the other time the phone was next to me); also there are concrete walls in my apt also. Maybe it is some interference on my end. I dont want to send this thing back.
Oh, you're in an apartment... THis explains a lot. Wireless LAN's and some models of cordless phones interfere with Bluetooth connections. There are probably enough wireless lans and cordless phones around you to screw it up. -Jay
What Jay says is soooo true. Take it for a drive or go to the park or just get away from apartment and see what happens.
Oh ok... that explains why I never heard static while I was around town ... even while I was on a loud bus I do know that I am not insane for not wanting to blame the earpiece lol Thanks for the help
