Ok, I have a AT&T blue account, a little over 1 year into my 2 yr contract. I want to convert to orange, so I can get on a FamilyTalk plan w/ two lines. I also want to get 2 RAZR's for use with this family plan, and ditch my current phone.

I am confused about what my upgrade options are with the migration. On cingular's website, they basically offer the same promotions for migrating customers as they do for those signing up for new service. Does this mean I can go through a reseller who has better deals on the RAZR, and get the promo price for both phones? Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    LJ from Austin, Texas

My experience is if an authorized reseller has a great deal, pass it up. I asked in some places that had great deals on v3's and as soon as they found out I was an upgrade customer, not a new customer then the price went up to what Cingular was selling them for. You're better off just going through Cingular.

I believe Jay2 is correct. If you look at all these *free* V3 deals from Amazon, Wirefly etc, you need to be a new customer.

Question. If you don't care about your cell number, and a lot of people dont...does anything stop you from cancelling your current service (as long as your contract is up) and just resigning with one of these great deals and getting new numbers??

I'm not sure but I think you have to not have service with that provider for like 6 months or so. I don't think they'll let you do that.

I do want to keep my number, but more importantly than that, I'm still under contract. I signed up with an At&T 2 yr agreement, and that was about a year ago, so I think my only option would be to migrate that one line. The second line I'm adding should qualify for the special incentives I think.

Go into the store and check first. It would really suck if you did that and you had an extra $100 added onto your bill. When you make the change You will have to pay an activation fee on the new line ($36 I think) and a migration fee ($16 I think) on your original line. These charges will be added to your next bill after the upgrade.

    Here is the scenario:

You cancel your current Cingular wireless account, you are no longer a customer. I figure at that point you are anyone's fair game. Then walk into the store and get the new customer deals, only draw back I see is you loose your phone number.

I doubt there is a stipulation in these free Razr or whatever deals that says, "you can not have been a recent Cingular customer".

I do know, like Jay2 refers to, that often these free Razr deals thay make you wait for like three or six months before you can subit the rebates. You have to include a copy of a statement, basically proving you have been a customer in good standing for that period of time. Then pray to the rebate gods that you get your 200.00 rebate check.

    Followup

I just walked out of Walmart with a FamilyTalk plan and 2 new RAZRs (video record enabled). They migrated my existing AT&T account to Cingular, and added a new line. I actually had to go to two different Walmarts... the first one had some ghetto moron behind the counter that told me they couldn't do anything, and that I had to go to a cingular store. I went to another Walmart, and found a friendly, helful lady who took care of everything.

They charged me the same price for the phones as if it was a new activation on both lines... $68/each. Sweeeeet. :D

Awesome! I'll tell my brother-in-law to check out wal-mart. he wants a Razr, but was upset that it was a new activation price only at BB.

But then again, what's to stop him from signing up new accounts with Cingular as additional accounts and then go ahead and cancel the blue accounts? ;)
