Is there anyway to block text messaging? My daughter has a phone without any packages for this and her friends can't seem to comprehend her telling them to NOT text message her. thanks -- a frustrated mom
Yes most providers can disable text messaging if you call and tell them to. I would just call Customer Service and explain the situation. Of course if she doesn't do VERY much text messaging, small packages are available for a very inexpensive price.
I know TM is not always willing to do this, I don't know why. You will have to push them hard giving the reason you gave here.
Welcome to WA River. If you call TMobile customer service at 1-800-937-8997, and explain the reason for having text messages blocked on your daughters line they will suspend them until you call in again and request to have them turned back on. I had TMobile turn off text messages on my daughters prepaid line, because I felt that she to young at this time to be sending and receiving text messages. TMobile explained to me that all I needed to do was call CS back when I want them to enable text messages again.
There is no way to block phone-to-phone text messaging (using telephone numbers.) You may block email text messages sent to your number e.g. 3115552368@tmomail.net) but that's it. You cannot block regular phone-to-phone SMS/text messages.
with VZW there is a setting in the phone where you can block text messages or you can just tell the reps you dont want text messaging and its that simple i guess t mobile really likes those text message HUGE bills and thats why they dontlike to disable texts lol ive had bills in excess of 400 dollars from off network text messages
If this is the case, how come after TMobile told me that they stopped text messages on my daughters account, when I try to send her a text message it's never being received on her phone?
I have Verizon, and I don't see this setting that you are referring to here.... Also, if you had bills that were in excess of $400, it's your own fault and not the carrier that you were with at the time. If you were that heavy of a text message user then you should have had a text messaging bundle package added to your account. And that's something that "ALL" the carriers offer today, and not just Verizon.
Certain phones have the ability to block certain things the VZW UI is somewhat different in the sub menus.
i realize this and i had a text messaging plan but my large bill was off network texting (i am on verizon an was texting my GF on cingular) that problem is now fixed because they have now switched to VZ due to popular request lol i like the ublimited on any network deal but i wasnt gonna extend my contract or start it over for that
you are correct their UI varies you can actually start your phone in test mode and block them theres a key sequence then you restart the phone but i forgot it, it would be on Hack the Razr! or Planet MotoX™ dot Net: Motorola Modding... all that RAZR & more™
you can't block text messaging i worked for tmobile as a care rep for over a year, if you try to take off the code then customers get chargeded min insted of the 10 cents per text, there is no socc code to block them, just like you can't block calls it's how the gsm network works
i heard a rep mention that once and i had a lot of minutes so i thought the offer intigueing................when i called back multiple reps had no clue as to what i was talking about or how to do it
AT&T can allow SMS blocking on their phones, so it may be a T-Mobile thing vs a GSM thing. It may have something to do with OTA updates, that makes them not allow blocking SMS.
it's possible that they did in the past but i had them for a year and they never started permitting SMS Blocking.........even after giving them up for Sprint i still kept hearing reports here on these forums that the policy hadn't changed
and a thing that ive noticed about AT&T is that if you want to turn of all messaging you have to turn off SMS and MediaNET cuz my friends parents forgot to disable data and they can still receive MMS..........they cant send though which is weird
No you can have Data, without messaging. It took about 15 calls, but it is possible. Since they "fixed" my account. I do not recieve text or mms, but data does work. ATT is ludicrous not to have a data plan without messaging for smartphones. Especially since they dont provide anything to prevent spam.
You know if I need something to this extent done I just leave it alone. Seems like to many things get screwed over lol.
Actually the need to do this not just for Smart Phones but for regular accounts. Case in Point, I have a shared family plan with 5 lines, I have Unlimited shared SMS/MMS/Video/IM. Now I want to add data to my 1 line, everything has a messaging plan attached to it, now I am the primary line with the shared sms plan linked to it. If I want to add a data plan, since they come with messaging, will this cause the shared SMS plan to get messed up & does that mean I would no longer have unlimited SMS/MMS ect... and be stuck with one of these bundles? I want to try the data side, but have that bad feeling it will mess up my unlimited messaging plan. (I really like to trust my feelings, 99% of the time they are right) If they had data only plans I would be set, but right now only Go Phone plans have it available.
In my zipcode there are 2 Data Only Smartphone Plans available: 1. Smartphone Connect Unlimited - $19.99 2. Smartphone Connect 5MB - $9.99 Well that still leaves a 1% chance. . According to my source at Cingular, they offer 2 data only plans for situation just like yours, I even told him what phone you had. It would be an add-on feature, and would not impact what you have now: 1. 20 MB - $34.99 2. Unlimited - $39..99 I was told that neither plan is accessible by web but if you call Customer Service, they will add it to your account for you. Hope this helps.

No problem, thank you Sir . Yes the GoPhone has better choices. There is a 1MB Media Net plan for postpay also for $4.99, but I would blow that in no time browsing WA, so I didn't mention it. I am curious as to if Cingular will let you add-on the Smartphone Connect $5MB for $9.99. If you decide to go this route, please post if it works. PS: Why are we discussing at&t data plans in the T-Mobile Forum?
Please don't call me sir, I work for a living. U may have to call them & see if they will allow this add on, and I have no idea why this went so far off course that it became an AT&T data discussion & sorry to the OP about this hijacking.
Sorry Sir, it will never happen again Sir..... Such a deal I have for you. I have a correction to my post above, the only 2 options available for your V3xx with unlimited messaging plan are: 1. 1 MB for $4.99 2. Unlimited for $19.99 (he has been royally chastised by me for giving me wrong information before). Hope this helps. PS: I think the OP flew the coup after the intial post more than a month back.
Such a Deal Huh? so that's such a deal, comon we can do better then this (my attempt to haggle here). And I told you DON"T CALL ME SIR. DO I LOOK LIKE SOMEONE THAT SHOULD BE CALLED SIR? (well maybe I do)
Thanks for this tip. From now on I will make sure that I check my male patients profile first to see if they have a job or not, before I go calling them "sir"........:lmao:
You have to check to see if they are a boss, they are the ones called sir & they are the ones that don't work. But it's a good idea to check anyhow to make sure it is a man.
