BlackBerry Connection Newsletter - Owners Lounge Edition Introducing a new way to get your work email, calendar, and contacts on your personal smartphone If you own your own BlackBerry® smartphone, we've got exciting news you will want to hear. In less than a week Research In Motion (RIM) will be launching a new product that lets you connect your personal BlackBerry smartphone to your work email, calendar, contact list, notes, memos, and more. It’s all synchronized over the air—meaning that you do not need to do a desktop synch to update this information. Just ask your IT department to set up the new BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Express—it is a free download. I already forwarded to my IT manager. He's told me it's not going fly with Corporate, since they pay a contract for BES.
Interesting. I wonder if my company would go for that. I might forward it on to a co-worker with a BB and let them be the ones to ask. Thanks for posting this.
I gather that this option is for small companies that do not want to buy the full license, maintenance from BB for their Enterprise system? So a large company that already has that, wouldn't normally go for this freebie employees?
I think the big difference is that this new feature will only allow for syncing of data like email, contacts, calendar, etc. It will not provide a company with any control over the devices. BES allows companies to restrict content on the devices and adds a layer of security in that the company knows at all times which devices are active on the server. This free solution from RIM won't do any of that extra stuff.
It also works for a home server - where you install the 1 free BES license, then install Express & you can sync your personal BB to your home server. I think this way you don't have to pay the extra $15 per month to your phone provider for the BES data plan. Would've been great with my Curve & our home server if they had come out with it sooner.
Yeah I might still have my Tour had this been an option before. With that said, I like the Moment better, so everything worked out in the end.
