Greetings all. I am looking for some advice in reference to upgrading to a Blackberry.

I have an opportunity to get a Blackberry from either Verizon or Sprint. Not sure if one carrier is any better than the other for Blackberry service.

I am eligible for a 20% discount with either carrier.
If I use Verizon, my son wants a Blackberry so I can "buy one, get one free".
I am eligible for an upgrade with Sprint, so I would get the $150,00 off.
If I use Sprint, my 5pm evenings go away & I will have to settle for 6pm.

Both carriers work equally well for me as far as reception goes. Does Verizon restrict apps more than Sprint?

Also looking for suggestions as to which Blackberry to get.
I do not need this for my job, simply a way to get email, web browsing, etc...

Thanks in advance for your anticapated responses.

I KNOW that the Sprint Blackberry costs $30/month more than Verizon which is $360/ year for the same services.

I THINK (I could be wrong) that the Sprint Blackberry Tour comes unlocked, the Verizon one does not.

    things to consider?

What Sprint plan are you on?

If you are on a Simply Everything Plan or Everything Data their is no extra cost for the Blackberry. If you are not on one of these plans Sprint will ask you switch to one before puting the BB on your account.

I think BB has more say on their devices, so the differences will be very small between the two carriers. If coverage is not a concern, then check out the rate plans of both and find the better deal. I would go with the Tour, but the Curve is a good device too. And if you keep an eye out on the Best Buy ads, they sell the Curve for free to $50 out the door (no rebates) depending on the week.

Two BlackBerries on Sprint is $130/mo for 1500 minutes and 2 lines of service including data and unlimited text on both lines. I have no idea what Verizon charges for a share plan with two BB''s. So with your discount Sprint would cost about $100/mo.

BestBuy has the Curve for free this week (Sprint and Verizon versions) for new activations and upgrades.

The GSM portion of the Sprint BB Tour is not unlocked, but you can call and Sprint will unlock it upon your request.

If Sprint and Verizon have equal coverage in your area, go for Sprint. Sprint will most likely be cheaper than Verizon and Sprint phones seem to have less "junk" on them than Verizon phones do.

Thank you all for your replies.
I opted to take advantage of the Verizon "buy one get one free" and so far so good, Since this is my 1st smart phone, there is definately a learning curve, But I haven't gotten frustrated yet.

I was paying 25.00 per month to Verizon for web/tv and an extra 5.00 for email. So I really won't see an increase due to the 20% discount on the data plan.

My Sprint plan is the 39.99, so I would have had to change it to the 69.99 at the risk of losing some perks on my account.

    Again, many thanks.
