I'm using a deactivated Sprint BB, so I don't think it makes a difference. As far as I know, the Cell BID is reported by the tower. I'm not sure why so many other utils report only PN offsets. It's unfortunate that VZW cells don't report their GPS coords. The Sprint sites all do, and it makes for easy mapping.
Stranger and stranger. I did some driving around yesterday and noticed some weird things. I don't think the tower I was looking at was showing consecutive #'s for each sector. I did a 1/2 mile radius on a clearly identified Verizon site and I know there are no other sites within a couple miles and the base ID's were not even close to each other. Also one sector was showing a 30-1-xxxx and another sector was showing 30-2-xxxx. I know the 30 is the SID for VZW but I have no idea what the 1 and 2 were for. I will have to go back and check the website to see if there was any explanations on that. Next week I will recheck when I have an activated VZW Blackberr Tour:biggrin:
On your Verizon 3589i go to screen 31-08. The number on the second row of the display is the Cell BID. This also works on the Sprint 3588i. It does not matter if the phone is activated or not. In some markets there is a relation between lowest Cell BID and lowest PN, but that is just a convention for that carrier in that market. The most common practice seems to be raising the PN by 168 between sectors of a single site and raising the Cell BID by 256 between sectors.
