I followed a link here and carefully edited a seem to get rid of the "Verison" flag on a Razr V3m. I must have done something horribly wrong. I get no reception, the phone does not respond at all, it cycles between "Changed style: loud" and the wallpaper, and I can't get any program to recognize it's plugged into the USB port. I fear I have burned this puppy. Any solution out there? Thanks. jana
I am not familiar with the CDMA models, however if you were having the same problem with a GSM model I would suggest resetting the phone by installing the latest monster pack. Are there CDMA monster packs available yet? -Jay
Jay, Yea, the CDMA Gods have been very, very, very kind to us lately. There have been monsters released for the Verizon V3m, V3c, K1m, and also the Alltel V3c, V3m, and K1m. Up to recently, it was strictly upgrades, so there used to be now way back. Finally we are catching up to the GSM world, hehe. Jana, your best bet would be to flash with the Verizon V3m monster file. It will install all the files originally on the phone. After flashing, all u would need to do is *228 option 1 to activate the phone, and everything would be back to normal.. The pprob might be as u mentione,d u cannot get the phone to connect via usb. Can u get it to charge? Or is there no usb cable function? We might be able to get the phone into bootloader mode so u can flash it. I know this might sound daunting, but if u bring it back to verizon, they might know u tried hacking it. Let me know if u need more help regarding flashing./
Haven't heard of a monster pack for the CMDAs. I did solve my problem, though, with the help of a very kind Verizon tech. I instantly told him that I knew I had been "bad" and that what I did had canceled the warranty but I had become very frustrated with all the features that Verizon blocked. He shook his head in sympathy. Then he asked what I was trying to change. "I wanted to get rid of the Verizon banner." He laughed. Whatever I did fried the software. He got me a new phone, telling the desk that the software had gone bad (technically true). I'm hesitating to do even the basic edits to transfer files now. jana
LOL, glad everything worked out for you. The first time I tried hacking my phone it had no sound. After an evening of panic I was able to fix it though.
I wouldn't be discouraged into doing mods. Trust me if you have a Verizon phone... Its UI is crap! But Just be careful, before you save any changes make sure you go through things to make sure it is perfect. I am going to be swaping my fiancee's verizon v3m over to alltel's firmware because of how ____ty the verizon is. its impressivly slow to begin with, yet when you add contacts and have text messages saved on your phone, it is imposible to use.
Did I learn a lesson? Not really, but software is conspiring againt me (actually, perhpas hardware). MPT readily recognizes my phone, but MSU sees nothing. I think the cable might be defective. At any rate, I can't change anything with the new phone. Maybe just as well. ....
Ha, yeah.... I sat in silence as soon as I clicked the button to start flashing my phone to Alltel's firmware, cause I figured that if anything happened that somehow disconnected my computer from my phone, my phone would be worthless. But then it worked, and it's awesome.
Its like an adrenaline rush... The fear that you just ruined a very expensive phone, and then the rush when you figure out how to change it back again. -jay
Yea, there is definitely a rush. When the Alltel v3c firmware was leaked, and people were flashing their v3m to v3c firmware just to gain the Moto UI even tho they were losing their tf card slot...i did it just b/c i was bored with no more hacks left to do, and needed some excitement, haha. But now the alltel v3m f/w is out, and i can relax for a while. Prolly wont be too many heavy mods until my NE2 is up...unlesss there is some advancement in making VZ Nav working. Then I will make some more moves.
I cried when I flashed my V3 and it didn't work the first time. I remember reading all kinds of posts on various boards about how you wouldn't even get the phone to turn on if it didn't flash correctly. I got lucky, and the second time was a charm. Nerve wracking if you ask me.
Maybe I just got lucky (or my life is real boring) but all my edits have been ho-hum. Follow the procedure, reboot the phone and done - no issues.
Ha, that is kind of boring. I mean, it's how I'd like everything to work with my phone, but the risk factor would make some of this stuff worth trying, even if it didn't work. Of course, since I don't have money to buy a new phone and stuff, the risk factor is a little bigger for me than a lot of people. But whatever. I'm shutting up now.
