I'm happy with my LG vx6100. Never heard of the other one y'all are raving about.

I seemed to have more issues when i just had the T-Mobile firmware on the phone, but since I flashed and flexed it, most if not all of the major bugs have been fixed. If someone can clarify this 3 day issue, that would be great!

the 3120 6230 are good choices for signal.
the v551 is pretty decent and does have EDGE

surprisingly the SEz500 is supposed to have the best signal, i dunno how that happened

My fiance has the 3120 and my father has the V551. I like both phones very much, but think the 3120 has an advantage. It is too small for me and my fingers, but she has great service with it! We never drop calls.

My father's phone sometimes has audio cutouts, but it hasn't been too bad. He really likes the phone coming from a TDMA startac!

Really??? It seems like a bare bones V600 for half the price to me...I guess that's why people like it so much, the price.

Hardly, the V551 is the same as the V600, feature wise, plus the V551 has EDGE for high speed. Not bare bones at all, but better.

I stand corrected, should have done my homework on the V551 before posting such an uneducated statement. Sorry about that!

Funny that you mentioned the flashing lights on the outside, I have those disabled on mine! I hate having the blue light strobing in the background as I try to go to bed at night with the phone on the charger...

I guess, I haven't had any problems with mine so far. I know the original Cingular version had issues with the 850 band. I fortunately don't use it here in AZ for my calls. However, when I was up in Colorado, I was on 850 most of the time with great success...no major issues to report.

And my v551 is definitely not without issues. I'd trade it to get my v600 back.

OK Matt, spill it. What do you like and not like about the V551 compared to the V600?

Aside from the looks of the phone, which is merely a personal preference (v600 beats v551 easily IMO), my v600 never had the problem my v551 has from time to time. Every so often in the middle of a phone call the microphone will simply stop working and the other party cannot hear a word I say. There have been a few threads over at HoFo about the problem, so I am not the only person experiencing it.

OK, got it. I will ask my dad if he has any problems with that at all yet. I don't think he has, because he would have asked me about it already. I agree that the 600 looks better than the 551, but that is my personal preference as well...

I just talked to my dad about it and he said he hasn't had any problems with the microphone so far. I told him to keep it in mind in case it happens one day. I'll be crossing my fingers because I know he loves his new phone!

the mic problem is bad enough that i do not feel comfortable using it as my primary phone but not so bad that I want to give up the phone.

I haven't had this problem with the V551 either.

AnthroMatt, why don't you return the V551 for warranty service?

Because Motorola takes forever to service phones. and that is when they are willing to acknowledge a problem. the issue is not consistently present so it is hard to replicate.

I deal with that on the 2-way radio side with them. It seems like 3-4 weeks before we get things back from thier depot.

Anthro, how did you manage to get the v600 back, or is it a different v600?

    I don't have a v600...that's why I said I would trade my v551 for one. ;)

Both phones have issues, so I might as well have the one I think looks better. heh.

It must be a norm for these companies, We have the same problem with our Ericsson radio's taking forever to get them back from repairs. I wonder if any other companies like Nokia take this long to get a phone back from repairs.

I've had two different Nokia's repaired. One took a week; the second took about 2 weeks.

I couldn't live with a bum phone that was under warranty. I'd send it back.

Kenwood is generally quicker for us, we get the radios we send back them back in about 2 weeks. But then again, we have very few that go back, most just go in the garbage or used for spare parts because they are unrepairable.

Haven't had any issues with my v600, could it be that it also depends on the carrier/network you're using the phone with?

One "issue" (be it small) is that the volume on the phone calls is much quieter than when I was using it on T-Mobile. Some quick hex editing of the gain table fixed that one right up though :D
