    BEDMINSTER, N.J. (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. wireless telephone company, on Friday said its quarterly operating cash flow and service revenue each rose 10 percent as it added more customers than expected.

    The company, a joint venture between Verizon Communications and Britain's Vodafone Group Plc , said service revenue for the third quarter rose to $4.61 billion from $4.18 billion a year ago.

    Operating cash flow or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased to $1.80 billion from $1.63 billion a year ago.

    Bedminster, New Jersey-based Verizon Wireless said total customers, excluding acquisitions rose by 803,000 in the quarter compared with analysts' estimates which ranged from 550,000 to 681,000.

    Including 411,000 customers from the acquisition of Price Communications, it added 1.2 million net new customers. It finished the period with 31.5 million customers.

    The company said its average monthly revenue per user rose slightly to almost $50 and its customer turnover rate rose slightly to 2.3 percent.
