Hello, I want to upgrade my phone and was thinking about getting either a LG VX5500 or the 8360, but I don't really know which one is better. I have looked at some reviews on other sites and they both seem to be about the same. Basically I just want to know if anyone has any recommendations or any better suggestions. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, David
The VX8360 would be the "better" of the two as it has more features than the VX5500. If you want just a basic phone, the 5500 will work just fine for you. One major difference between the two phones in question is the VX8360 has a removable memory card slot, the VX5500 doesn't. The 8360 has a 1.3 megapixel camera versus a VGA camera on the 5500. You can use the 8360 on Verizon's Premium plans, whereas on the 5500 you cannot. To really see what features the two phones have side-by-side, go to Verizon's site, select these two phones to compare and you can really see in detail exactly what I'm telling you. What also matters is whether you want to spend more for the 8360 because off its more enhanced features versus the lower price of the 5500. Either way, they're both decent phones, so whichever one you choose you should be fine with. Welcome to Wireless Advisor, David.
I agree with Mobile Mike, but there are some other advantages to the 8360. LG has made some improvements from the 8350. Without getting into the advanced features, they fixed the hinge issue, they boast a 5 hour talk time and the speakers for the speaker phone have been moved to the front of the hand set. The MP3 buttons are recessed so there not so easily accidentally pressed. It rings loud, GREAT reception, great call quality and clarity and its not so tricky to open. Great phone. Worth the money, even for the "basic" user if you can benefit from the improvements and features mentioned.
Quick update, I decided to try the 8360 and so far I like it vey well as it definately has more bells and whistles than I am use to. I am still reading the manual so I can figure some of this stuff out, but so far it isn't too hard. Thanks for the advice, David
