T-Mobile or Cingular? My contract with Verizon is up in May '07 so i'm considering the two... I already had Sprint (before it was Sprint/Nextel) then I went with Verizon as my parents had Verizon, but I rarely talk to them... so any input?
Re: Best GSM providor in CO Knowing where you live/travel to would be a great help in a recommendation.
Re: Best GSM providor in CO Whoops! Okay, I live in Aurora, I go to CU-Denver, I sometimes go down to Colorado Springs, Westminster, Centennial, downtown Denver.
Re: Best GSM providor in CO I have both and judging from where you go, T-Mobile is by far my 1st choice. Cingular has been sitting on their hands since the AT&T purchase, while T-Mobile has been adding sites like crazy...especially in Aurora. They have addressed the Aurora Planning Board that they desire to serve more customers at the neighborhood level. In the mountains T-Mobile falls behind Cingular. But even then, outside the I-70/I-25 corridors, Cingular provides coverage only by roaming on Alltel. But all ski areas are covered by T-Mobile, as are most mountain towns. You would be advised to check their coverage map to be sure...it has street-level resolution. I am amazed at how many dead spots Cingular still has in town, although they claim to be adding new sites...but I haven't seen one of them. I would like to add, moving to GSM in Colorado is a step down in coverage compared to Verizon. Therefore, your choice involves how much, and where, you can accept less coverage.
Re: Best GSM providor in CO I did find one new Cingular site....its at Yosemite and Lincoln in Lone Tree. Its not even on Cingular's new coverage check.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: LG-CU500 Obigo/WAP2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) Try both and see which one you like.
Re: Best GSM providor in CO Like most people said take T-Mobile for 15 day trial and see if the network pleases you. Go to several spots and makes test calls. Use Verizon almost all other calls at this point. If you are happy with T-mobile where you are at then you can switch, if there is several spots where coverage is not that hot they you may want to stay with Verizon. I have a cousin that lives in the Denver Metro. When she bought a mobile telephone she wanted to go Cricket, but got ended up with T-Mobile. A few places she went, she would get a weak signal. That was the end of 2004. Today the last time I talked to her (a few days after she got married), very few places were she goes around Denver and Ft. Collins area she gets a weak signal. Hope this helps
Re: Best GSM providor in CO Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, Verizon is alright, but i'm the kind of person that wants to switch phones a lot and I noticed my friend (with T-Mobile) gets a phone off of ebay and switches the sim card and that's that. If I was able to do that with Verizon i'd stay, but also, many of my friends are on T-Mobile. And, since I don't live with my parents, I rent a house with two other people, we don't have a land line, so the cell phone is my only way of communication, well, that and email. Also, T-Mobile's "My Faves" looks interesting, if my parents stay with Verizon, I'll just put my mom, dad, sister, on the list of "My Faves" as well. What sucks is, recently, I had a Samsung A670 and I dropped it a couple of days ago, the hinge was broken and the screen stopped working, since I needed a phone (because of no land line) I had to buy a very cheap one from a Verizon store (well not cheap as it cost me $130 -- no contract). It's a Pantech phone It does the job, but when I hit a speed dial number, the screen says "Speed Dail" Oh well... May isn't THAT far away and all I do is call and text. So this phone is fine for now... I just hated that I had to spend $130 for it.
Re: Best GSM providor in CO I've been happy with Cingular's coverage here, but the biggest negative right now is Cingulars delay on deploying 3g in Denver. Sprint and Verizon have had EVDO since last year. Cingular wont fess up to the real issue, but it appears to be related to their lack of spectrum in the PCS band which is currently only limited to 10mhz.
Re: Best GSM providor in CO Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but I didn't want to make a new one and waste space. Still with Verizon Wireless...Got a BlackBerry, which I love - my two year contract ends next year and I was just wondering, how is AT&T now? First it was AT&T, then it was Cingular, now it's AT&T again -- is there any difference in coverage? Or is it still the same?
Re: Best GSM providor in CO Well, yes its the SAME company. It was just a name change. Sam people, same stupid (sorry, I just hate 'em) policies. But... last time I was out in Colorado, when I still had at&t, was in March '07. I was in Denver, which at&t is very choppy in the metro and near airport. When you get farther west out towards Boulder, the network gets better. You don't have the choppiness, and its very nice and clear - not as much as a landline, but its still good enough. While near the park the coverage starts to weaken, due to the mountanous terrain. But yea, in Boulder it is good. Now... when we went to Eldora Ski Area, I had '911 EMERGANCY ONLY' service; T-Mobile was there but didn't have a roaming agreement with Cingular. After this we traveled west on i-70 (Denver to Dillon Valley -which highway is that?!?). While traveling we had service near Silver Plume, which is a small town about twenty miles from Denver. While we were literally next to that town we had 4/7 bars for about a half mile then it cut out - the town is of 100 people so go figure. Then after this, we had no service until we got into the town of Dillon. In Dillon, the valley we had great service. In most ski areas the service was acceptable to say the most - in some areas it was not even available. And we did NOT roam at all during the trip - which I wish we would have in a few spots to actually get service but o well... this is Cingular we are talking about. 'We are going to enforce a 40% roaming rule on all 63 million customers, but then not tell a single one of them when they are roaming (on their handsets)!'
Re: Best GSM providor in CO In Littleton and western Centennial I have good coverage. The audio quality is pretty good and isn't choppy. The one place I've found that the audio does get choppy is at Coors Field.
Re: Best GSM providor in CO Since this thread was started, Cingular added several new cell sites in Colorado...where they have licenses.. This brings them up to where the other carriers were a few years ago. But that's a lot better than they were. When your contract is over with Verizon, you might be happy with AT&T. They are, and probabably will be, a better carrier. However, all the others are improving as well, so it's a moving target. Sit back and enjoy the great coverage you have today.
