I had a Sprint PCSS phone for a few years and was never happy with the coverage. Even on Rt.2 inside 128 there is a spot without signal. Now got a ATT GSM phone and, honestly, after 2 days it seems not much better. I am not hiking in the mounains here, inside 128 I expect complete coverage and neither Sprint nor ATT GSM have it?!?!
Is there a better provider? Who has the best digital coverage around Boston?

GSM might not be the best choice for your needs at this point. I personally would recommend Verizon (CMDA), Cingular (TDMA), or ATT (TDMA, not their GSM).

having just come back from Germany I could not withstand the lure of GSM.
I just uploaded all my contacts from my Pilot onto the T68i. It took a couople of minutes via IR, it would have taken hours by hand. I am looking forward to play with bluetooth. I want a modern phone with good coverage, is that asking too much? It is 2003!

Well the T68 is your first problem. It has the worst RF performance out of any GSM phone ever sold. Change your phone and call us in the morning.

IF YOU RETURN your phone MAKE SURE you like it...and BEWARE of the trial period ending...after that your stuck in the contract..if you don't absoulately need gsm and want the best coverage i suggest you use TDMA(ATT or CINGULAR) or CDMA (Verizon) ....what good is a phone you can barely use....

I would say Verizon, based on just past experiences between Verizon and Cingular. I have lived inside the 128 belt and travel the area for work for the past 4 years, and Cingular failed me many times. I switched to Verizon a few months back, and have only had good experiences since.

Seems ATTWS is not offering a Nokia 6310i, and, as a matter of fact the ATT online store no longer has the T68i either. (T-mobile dropped it a while ago, I guess it is a goner).

If I return within the trial period I am still stuck with the $36 activation fee, right? Or can I get another phone, keep the SIM and save on re-activation?

Stupid rebate system, they should sell phones and plans individually.

Oh, by the way, has anybody ever gone to a GSM provider in the US with a personal phone and bargained for a discount on the plan instead a rebate on a phone?
Or do I actually have top get a phone to get a SIM with a plan?

Just found that the 6310i is not syncML compatible, so no easy syncing with my Mac.[IMG]

My opinion is Verizon (CDMA) or ATTWS (TDMA) for the Boston area. I am in the Boston area and just switched from Cingular (TDMA) to Verizon and am pleased w/ the service so far.

    Thanks everybody!
I think I am going to keep my T68i for the year of the contract. I am not on the phone all that often and the other features weigh in too. At home I have good reception and I found that even with a weak signal (1-2 bars) I can have a reasonably good connection.

Interestingly, at a place where I have no ATTWS (Bedford,MA) the phoone still sees T-mobile.

P.S. The recommended 6310i is BIG, it's over 5" long, the T68i fits in my pocket.

Good luck with the phone and servce.

PS. "Interestingly, at a place where I have no ATTWS (Bedford,MA) the phoone still sees T-mobile." probably because ATT doesn't have GSM in the area
