Hi all, Im a noob here, I currently have a (very old and beat up) LG VX6100 that served me ok in its day. It's about 4 years old and now the housing is splitting! Believe it or not it's only my second cell phone since 1999 when I started (only for emergencies, I said, hahaha). Anyhow as you can tell I'm not one to be constantly exchanging my phones for the latest and greatest toy. Once I learn how to use it I keep it until and unless it doesn't work right! My first phone was an old Motorola bar-shaped phone, also on Verizon. Anyhow, basically I have read through a lot of posts here and it seems that none of the highly acclaimed phones that operate with Verizon are actually available through Verizon anymore. I read a lot of posts saying that Moto phones get the best reception with Verizon but none of the models mentioned in those posts are available. So my very long-winded question here is what CURRENT phones on the verizonwireless.com site would anyone recommend? The main things I need are better reception, fewer dropped calls (esp in my own freaking house!), good quality pictures for work, and I do want a qwerty keyboard as I'm a textaholic. I'm considering a navigation program but I could live without it. I would like a decent battery life or else be able to buy a bigger battery for it. Lots of memory for texts and contacts and pics would also be great. Any recommendations? One of my friends is pushing me to get a smart phone but I'm not so sure I need all of that. I'll just feel lucky enough to have something bluetooth compatible! lol I have an upgrade coming so most things on that site won't cost me extra (except the few most expensive ones). I just feel like I'm choosing blind at this point, reading feature lists doesn't help much. Thanks for any help! --the new chick
Hello vravdin, WELCOME to WA. I have not been a Verizon customer for almost a year but I came from the LG 6000, 6100, 7000 series. LG actually makes some very good phones for Verizon. I agree with you that if you do not need all the functions of a SmartPhone why go that route. The one phone that comes to mind that appears to fit all your requirements is the LG enV2, some texting friends of mine have it and are very happy with the keyboard and the phones's properties in general. Here is a review of the enV2, I hope it helps. I hope others will jump in here with more suggestions for you.
Env2 and Voyager (touch screen + QWERTY) both come to mind. I can't speak for the Samsung Glyde personally but I've had several samsung phones and they aren't half bad. Best of luck
A lot of people I work with use Verizon Wireless, and I have asked them off and on over the months which phones they honestly prefer because they travel more than I do for the most part and I like to know what works and what doesn't. LG's have a higher success rate in our area (Southern Illinois), followed by Motorolas, etc. I actually have to rate my 8830 World Edition right up there as well, as it is one of the best sounding devices I've owned. I have to give the nod to the Env2 - the Voyager's touch screen is too iffy in my opinion.
You might also consider a BlackBerry. My Pearl (which may not be the right keyboard for you) gets great reception, and the text/keyboard aspect is probably one of the best hands-down! The downside is the data package, which is an extra $30/mo which allows you to get your email mobily.
ENV2 (which is one of the phones I carry) or a BB Curve. Both get very good reception and have qwerty keyboards. I hear the Curve has good battery life, and I can say from experience that the LG does.
I want to thank all of you who replied, your comments were very helpful! After spending quite awhile checking out the phones and reading reviews, etc, I have to say that I agree with leafsfan that the Voyager's touchscreen is iffy. I could seldom get the thing to scroll. The same seems to be true of the Samsung Glyde, and although I didn't spend much time on that one, the sales rep at the store told me it's one of the most returned phones they have, because the screen isn't responsive. I don't know if she may have had an ulterior motive for saying that, but it seems likely. I really did want to check out the Blackberries and the PDA phones but in the end the extra monthly fees involved made me back off, especially since the rest of the people on my share plan didn't want to deal with sorting out our bill...maybe next time. I also looked at the Samsung Alias, which my niece just got. It seems like a decent phone and she usually has pretty good judgement in electronics, having worked in a Frye's for some years, however the qwerty seemed a little quirky for me (ha! a quirky qwerty!). Plus I wanted the 2.0 megapixel cam instead of the 1.3. I actually saw a phone that had a 3 mp cam but it didn't have much more going for it. I really wanted to try going back to a MOTO but none of the current models at Verizon seemed to stand out. Anyhow, I decided to try out the LG EnV2. One reason I chose that one is because it reportedly has such a long battery life. Because I've had an old phone for such a long time, I'm sure it will take getting used to, but I'll try to give a thorough report on it when it arrives and I mess with it for awhile. Thank you, all of you, Buickman, Jodi, Leafsfan81, nKrypteD1, and Charlyee!
I happen to really like my Lg- Dare VX-9700 its a full touchscreen phone with great responce/MP3/3.2cam/video/vertual qwerty keyboard when you turn it to the side, but I also owned the Voyager Titanium. In my opinion this phone beets it without even trying. One thing I would like to find out is where I can find FREE GAMES for it! they seem to be *impossible* but nothing is impossible PLEASE let me know if you have any useful advise
My sister had a glyde, and they replaced it with a env2 when it started messing up. She likes the ENV2 much better.
