Research In Motion (NSDQ: RIMM)'s BlackBerry Curve outsold Apple's iPhone last quarter in the United States, according to data from the NPD Group.

According to the report, entitled "Smartphone Market Update," RIM had a very successful quarter and had three of the top five best-selling smartphones for the first quarter. With the Curve at the top spot, the touch-screen BlackBerry Storm was the third most-popular smartphone, and the BlackBerry Pearl was in fourth place.

I wonder if its the old school curve or the new 8900

You would think the Bold would have done better as it make the Curve look old and crusty like a BB 7100

Of course this is US sales only, not worldwide. I think that the Curve (a very nice phone btw) should be listed as 'all models' since these results include all the carriers of the Curve, while the iPhone, Storm and G1 are offered only be one carrier each (att, verizon, Tmo).

What is most surprising therefore, is how well the iPhone, Storm, and G1 phones did against the Curve and Pearl that are offered by all carriers! That says something about the attraction of the 'touch screen'.

Worldwide, I think Q3 last year, the iPhone outsold ALL Blackberry models combined! RIM doesn't break out individual sales. That was 6.9 vs 6.1 million. That is one phone stacked against a lot of BB phones.

    Verizon who else?

loving mine that I picked up last week coming from the moto q9m and q9c....father has the storm, wasn't for me and I couldn't wait for the tour.

after rebates, got the curve for 5.00 from verizon!

The curve in the study only refers to the 83xxx series from what I understand so its based on Sprint and Verizon sales, especially with the buy one get one verizon has been doing for months.
