Hey guys, I have noticed a few banned members recently. (Never seen this til now) and I was just wondering what is some behavior that would get you banned? I know they would be in violation of the terms and conditions... But I was just wondering if you could give me an example of some things. ~*Ash*~ (hoping she never gets banned from her WA family...)
In general, the only people we ban immediately are spammers and those 13-year-old k-k-k00l d00ds who are trying to get people to click on their affiliate sites. Any established poster for whom a ban is being considered generates a HUGE discussion amongst the moderators, it's never given lightly, and it's almost always temporary as a cooling-off period (three days is a popular number).
Exactly as Zaphod said. It is pretty extremely rare that a non-spammer gets banned here. On the other hand spammers get banned, and all their posts get deleted, very quickly. If see a spam post, use the 'Report Post' button. It is a triangle symbol in each user's info box.
I have to admit that it un-nerves me everytime an established poster is banned, specially if that poster contributes well to the forums and not just the RZ. I also see posters that post flip or argumentative comments and get away with it. I am with Ash and don't want to get banned either. I would like to know what can get me in trouble. Hopefully not this post . Thanks much.
i got banned, once i got tired of trolls jumping on jones, and said so. i might have used a naughty word or two.:lmao:

I'd venture to say that you of all people are BAN-proof!!!:browani: You are a part of the IN Crowd!!!:lmao:
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: LG-CU500 Obigo/WAP2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) That mighty ban button can strick at any time. So be good for heavens sake.
I had thought of your little trip behind the woodshed when this thread was started, but I was not going to bring it up... -Jay
yeah, i wanted to say it before you did, if idd a known i woulda not brought it up, :loony: yeah i woulda, :browani:
You really haven't lived until you have had a 3 day "vacation" from a message board to sit back and think about some stuff.
All I can say is that I'm way too nice to get banned .....being an online troublemaker isn't a wise investment of my free time
A couple things of note...first...if you see the word "banned" under someone's user name they might just have one of the temporary bans that Zaphod mentioned. A temp ban looks the same as a permanent ban on someone's user name. As Zaphod and JFB pointed out, established members are very rarely banned forever. I can't even remember the last time it happened. I (personally) do not care how good a poster is, how well I know them, and how well they contribute if they do not follow the rules. If my girlfriend were to join here and break the rules I would ban her, lol. Prior to temporary bans being issued, users are almost always warned first. So realize that their temporary ban probably came after they had been privately warned to change their behavior. I am certain there are posts and comments that we miss. Moderators cannot possibly read every thread, so as JFB noted, report a post to us if there is a problem. Usually we only get reports about "trouble" after three or four exchanges between people have led to a slew of bad posts. Finally, if there is confusion as to rules there is a sticky in the Roaming Zone that explains them in depth. I think they are fairly cut and dry, but if that is not the case, let me know via PM. Ok I checked the Forum Rules and there is no mention of "thou shall not SASS a Super Moderator", so I hope I am safe with this post......... Firstly, thank you very much Mr. Big Meany for answering my question in such detail and most definitely to my satisfaction. Finally, why did you say "Finally" three times in your post?.......:lmao: Seriously, thanks much Anthro.
OUCH! She called you "Mr. Big Meany" That's Sassy... BTW Charlyee, isn't it spelled "Meanie" or is it my dorked up east-coast accent? Later, Jay
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: LG-CU500 Obigo/WAP2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) G can see a new rule coming.
No need to make a new rule...the last rule says we can remove posts and ban users whenever we want! hee hee.
In 5 years as a moderator here I think I have only perma banned one or two users who wasn't a spammer. Like Anthro said I can't even remember the last time it happened. It's getting much more rare.
This thread makes me laugh. Are there stats generated on banned "members?" Specifically, the ones from Lagos & Nigeria who try to sell phones to us?:lmao:
Yep we keep a log of all the banned members in our moderator control panel. The list is a mile long. Bobolito is one of our resident spam detectives and keeps a watch on the IP addresses and ranges.
I'd love too, but I'm sure there are waaayyyy more qualified people than myself, although I think ALL of you MODS are MY FAVORITES!!!:O I'm not brown-nosing or anything... nope... not me!!! :lmao: :loony:
I just thought I would put a picture showing new users exactly where the report post button it it is circled in blue.
