From what I heard from Bobolito, before the Cingular/ATT merger, Cingular used tmobile's 1900 band for GSM. Cingular had no licenses in NYC then. A couple of year after the merger now, Cingular uses former ATT's 850 band and that has been converted to GSM. Also they have 1900mhz GSM native service too. This was one of the reason to acquire ATT. Bobolito correct me if I'm wrong. viewfly
Cingular is using both 850 & 1900 in the NYC & NJ area on GSM, as for checking the frequency on a Razr, you need to get engineer mode setup on the phone. Go to the Motorola forum & check out Jay's thread on what you would need to do.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Nokia6682/2.0 (3.01.1) SymbianOS/8.0 Series60/2.6 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) Cingular uses 850 in okc.
At&t on TDMA used both 800 and 1900 Mhz just like they are on GSM. Cingular has the license for 800 Mhz in the NYC/NJ area but also holds some 1900 Mhz licenses. You will find that the phone will roll between the 800 and 1900 Mhz systems as you travel as they use both systems. http://people.ku.edu/~cinema/wireless/northeast.html
