Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.5849/1430; en; U; ssr)) I don't since I'm trying 2 keep the bill down. When I upgraded in July, the rep did the phonebook exchange for free. For now, i'll just take the chance by not backing up the phonebook.
I use it, it's only $1.99 a month. I think backup assistant is well worth it since I have a lot of contacts and in case something happens to my phone do not want to lose them all.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.5849/1438; en; U; ssr)) Cool... Not having it works 4 me as I only have about 60 contacts and I have the info saved in my old phone. I rather keep the $2+tax.
Supposedly, on November 16th, Verizon is suppose to offer free backups through "My Account" on their website.
I also use Backup Assistant and I think it's worth the $1.99/month to have peace of mind knowing that my contact list is backed up in case my phone is ever lost, stolen or damaged. It automatically backs up any changes to your contact list every day at the time of day you specify. After you download it and backup your contacts, your contact list is also available at the following link. https://ba.mightybackup.com For more info, you can get more info about it at the following link. http://www.getbackupnow.com/
Where did you get this information from?? This would be very nice to have for free then Verizon would have something on SIM cards that I like so much.
A bunch of VZW employees announced it on HoFo last week. If you are signed up for "My Accounts" on the website, you will be able to use the backup assistant for free. I'm sure VZW will have some type of formal announcement soon.
You know I remember back a while that I signed on to my account and then I had a survey popped up. In there I was asked what one feature would I like for free I chose backup assistant over everything else. Maybe there was alot of these done.
I just checked the Website and also Backup Assistant in GIN and no mention of this being a free service. It still shows $1.99 a month. I personally use MPT and back my Contact list up there.
Motorola Phone Tools. http://www.gsmcellular.com/Motorola-Mobile-Phone-Tools-w-USB-Data-Cable-V710-E815?engine=bizrate If you don't have a Motorola Phone I am sure that whatever type you own has a simular product.
I just set it up. It says it will charge you $1.99 per month but if you have "My Account" access set up they will waive the $1.99 charge a month. You can find more information on "My Account" section "My Contacts". "My Contacts". For me, it is just to the right of the already existing "My Phone" section (with its NE2 meter). Verizon associated with the word FREE. Isn't that an oxymoron? LOL
I just signed onto "My Account" on the Verizon Wireless website and next the NE2 meter is a new box that allows you to manager your contacts on your phone and schedule updates.....FOR FREE!!!!! I haven't played around with it yet but i guess this means no more $10 fee to transfer phone numbers when changing phones.
Since I am a fan of free, I decided to go for it I'll have to do the same for mom's phone when I visit my hometown... all she does is enter the number manually and hit the green button on the V325 lol. I could create the entries myself from a computer and she won't have to do a thing
I did the backup and when I logged into the site, I saw no contacts Do I have to add the contacts on the puter or is this done automatically?
I just went to www.verizonwireless/backupassistant. signed on using phone number and PIN. Completed the login information and it showed all my contacts. I woudl try again a little bit later. It took a couple of tries for me to login (timed out).
Wirelessly posted (MOT-8720_/00.62 UP.Browser/6.2.3.4.c.1.104 (GUI) MMP/2.0) i don't know if any of you realize but this is one of the new ways vzw intends to drop there churn below the 0.1% level.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4719/1378; en; U; ssr)) If I benefit from their changes, I'm all for it!!! Too bad I won't be able to take advantage of the prorated contract since I upgraded 4 months ago.
I love it. Nothing better than free, but after using it I would of spent the two dollars. Go for it...it's slick.
Re: Backup Assistant FREE TO "MY ACCOUNT" users! Just was checking out the email I got from VZW and the address backup GIN APP is free to My Account users. I already look at my bill and swap handsets for free online, and made up a SID@vtext.com text name (whatever that's called?) through My Account, and get detailed paper bills for free as well. I have 300+ names and address in my Nokia 6256i and have been using a third party "Phonedirector" software which I can use manage and backup my address book, radio settings and some gallery functions, etc using the built in Nokia Bluetooth on my Mac G4. Free is good and another backup is better! Seems to work OK, and loaded fast, but I'm really going through it in a hurry. There are several settings that change the backup automation. For some reason when I "change view" to show each contact as a box, with multiple numbers, not very many of the phone numbers are displayed. Seems that just having one number as default without labling as home, work, office, or email means the number won't display in this view. Website won't show either. Will have to mess with the in phone display settings. Likely witll have to change single number default settings to a specific type of phone in order to have the multiple number view option display properly. Whoopee! http://support.vzw.com/faqs/Get It Now/faq_backupassistant.html http://support.vzw.com/how_to_use/backup_assistant.html There's another free service offered in the VZW promo email that will send a text when plan minutes are exceeded. Haven't had time to play with that but sounds like a valuable service. - Sid
Is it free for all the Phones in your account, or just for the Primary? I have 4 phones under my account and would like to back them up too.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4719/1378; en; U; ssr)) It's free for all lines, but each phone must have the software downloaded onto it
Backup Assistant is the best thing to happen to cell phones! I have a $300 phone, but if I lose the phone it's worth nothing to me. Losing the numbers is worth a whole lot more than that. I have over 600 contacts, which i don't know the numbers to, only for certain people like my mom and such. If your a verizon wireless customer and you have a verizon wireless online account, (basically just registering your self on their website), they don't charge you the $1.99 per month for using the service! It's awesome, if i add a new number, it'll automatically detect the new number and upload it online. I recommend everyone to get this service! Ask customer service about it if your not sure, but you can download the app from get it now! Also, the $1.99 is cheap compared to other companies that don't even offer the service or charge $5/month for it.
Not to mention the online account allows you to autopay, receive a paperless bill, change features and plan options at any time. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't sign up for "My Account".
