I need some help with a forum issue outside WA. I am trying to find the best software to create a certain type of forum for a site and need some advice. If you think you can help me find this solution, PM me. I'll check back in the next few days. Thanks! Rich
No takers? Come on! This could end up being a well paying part time gig for someone with the right experience.
I only have experience with vBulletin (this) and FuseTalk. If you have questions about those, send me a PM and I'll try to answer.
The bulk of my experience is with vBulletin as well. I have a little experience with Simple Machines Forums, but I'm not fond of them. I believe Simple Machines is free, but IMHO, you get what you pay for. Some good friends of mine use Simple Machines on their forums, and I've been trying to talk them into getting vBulletin for years.
I added a forum to my website a year or so ago, and from looking into it, I remember vBullitin was hands-down the biggest and most popular, so given this it must be good. However there was also a yearly fee of something like $100-200. If you want to run a "professional" forum (ie: alot of traffic) it is probably worth to pay it. But if you are looking for something free to start out with, I'd reccomend PHPBB. It's free and pretty popular: phpBB • Creating Communities Worldwide
vBulletin has to liscense options... You can purchase the software, and use it as long as you wish, and pay for upgrades as you want them, or you can lease the software, and all updates are free of charge.
