AT&T versus Verizon in Pasadena/Foothill comunities

Who has the best coverage in the Pasadena, La Canada, Glendale area between AT&T and Verizon.

When discusing AT&T please note if you are using GSM or TDMA or analog.

I used to have both, ATT(TDMA) for biz phone and Verizon for personal, I did a lot of work at Mt. Wilson and Mt Lukens, Verizon worked a little better in the mountains for me and worked better on the 210 before you hit Sunland. I also had a few less busy calls at the Rose Bowl when I went to UCLA football games.

I can't speak for Verizon, but we're now with AT&T in Pasadena. We had Cingular and the service was TERRIBLE! We had so many dropped calls that my wife hated using her mobile around town. Now with AT&T we have 95% great quality calls all over Pasadena. Hope this helps.

About the hole on the 210 near Sunland -- back in May I was through there and VZW still dropped calls, but Nextel and SPCS were fine... Maybe they've fixed it in the past three months? (I don't know about AT&T.)

Interesting thing is that the WSJ article earlier in the week about dead zones said that Verizon doesn't have adequate coverage of the Rose Bowl. That seems like a big mistake to me if true.

Have you guys seen www.deadzones.com ? For LA, Verizon has many more spots listed than Sprint. I'm not making a statement about the comparison between the two - I just thought it was interesting.

I went to that deadzones.com....very interesting! I looked into some of the areas where I use most...many of those areas mentioned on the website were areas that NO service is successful! Even when I had ATT or Cingular!! Other areas mentioned are areas I have no problem with. I'm guessing there are many factors involved to that list...the type of phone used, the weather that day, etc. But it an interesting site to check out!

    thanks!

Bear in mind that deadcellzones.com is not checked in anyway, it's self-governed. Some of the submissions are quite obviously crap to anyone who goes to investigate.

My office is off the 210 at Ocean View. All the providers work fine here. The only one to have coverage in the horse properties between Lowell and Wheatland is AT&T (TDMA). Verizon works on the major streets (mostly Foothill). Cingular/T-Mobile have OK coverage until you get off the beaten track. Sprint roams to Verizon off Lowell for some reason.

    Hope this helps.

Agreed. I have found deadcellzones.com to be often outdated and have many inaccuracies as well as many duplicate entires.

For deadzones.com, I'm not even sure about outdated... how about totally unverified?

It claims ATT TDMA doesn't have service at Broadway and El Camino in Burlingame. I live right in that area, and not only does that corner have perfect ATT service, it has for all of the 3 years I have been with ATT!

Exactly! And I have found plenty of bogus entires for Sprint. Someone listed a dead zone recently at Santa Ana Canyon & Weir Canyon Rd in Anaheim. This is the exact location where Sprint has a tower and the signal is always full! What gives? It really makes you wonder how many other errors they have.
