Wow... One of my supervisors had a Nokia 2260 before dropping it in water a few months ago; she upgraded to one of the LG phones. She also told me that the TDMA in my area (FL panhandle) is going to be shutdown in September... this falls in line with the 7/15 shutdown of the south GA TDMA network.

I suppose this means no analog roaming for VZW customers in my area... glad I don't miss analog :)

Just to let you know Analog will be staying up until 2008. At this time carriers can VOLUNTARILY shut down their analog networks - but they DO NOT have to. This is not a mandate of any kind to shut down; it is however a mandate to keep them operable until February 2008.

And yes, TDMA is being shut down to make more spectrum available for GSM and CDMA.

Oops... it's too easy to lump analog and TDMA together:)

That's nice of them to do...

I recognize many of these markets listed as originally TDMA on PCS--no analog at all, just the GSM waiting to get all available channels now.

This was certainly the case for Dyersburg, TN and SE Alabama. But Knoxville was also GSM early, as a BellSouth Mobility DCS market. The northern MS was the strip along US-80 east from Greenville.

There is quite a few companies out there. Dobson has a bunch TDMA, CDMA(1st GEN) and Analog towers. Verizon, Cingular (attws) AT&T networks. US Celluar, Centennial and a few other mom and pops here and there that Ive forgot.

I think my Mom had a TDMA TracFone before I put her on my account and got her that spiffy Motorola L2.
