ATT offers a YouTube video explanation of MMS for iPhone and network congestion with 850Mhz expansion. Interesting response to bloggers complaints... "We've been working for months to prepare the radio access controllers in our network to support this launch. That means calibrating base stations all over the country, and frankly that's a very time-consuming process. MMS for the iPhone will be coming on September 25th. We wanted to make sure that when MMS for the iPhone launches, the experience was great. We wanted to get it right" YouTube - AT&T Network 101 & MMS Availability Update
A very interesting way to respond to the people on this upgrade & give them a little education on how the networks work in simple terms. Yeah the graphics could have been better but I guess to get the point across to those that don't want to know more it's perfect. We will see what happens in a few weeks when it's turned on & if the complaints remain or die out. Thanks for the link Viewfly
Translation "good lord, our network is terrible! were gonna do some stuff to make it not suck so much anymore" 850 3G will go a long way, I think. Though whatever they did, I sure hope they beefed up with MMS servers. MMS NEVER worked with AT&T.
When you say Never worked, was that where you are? I never had a problem with MMS when I had AT&T, in fact it was quite good & fast compared to my Verizon service.
My girlfriend in Buffalo, NY always had problems with MMS. It would sometimes take days to send/receive, if it went through at all.
Wow it's amazing how some area's especially with larger cities see differences like that. Does she still have AT&T? If so maybe she will see a difference come the 25th.
I watched that video as well. I wasn't impressed. I only saw excuses after excuses. AT&T dropped the ball and they were not prepared. They had to have had seen something like this coming. If they didn't, then I'm scared for AT&T. What makes me upset though as I'm sure many others is the fact, AT&T isn't really admitting they messed up and they aren't apologizing. Instead, they give BS excuses such as that video and want people to believe the network is so wonderful and they are making it even better.
Nope, she got fed up and dropped AT&T for Sprint last February. Even when she was with me in the NYC area, constant dropped calls were the name of the game, even on the edge network on her Centro.
Oh lord, and that's the guy they used to voice that message? LMAO! He looks terrified by the expression on his face and he looks like he just woke up. What a mess! LOL! I also noticed they tried to imitate Apple's video tutorials with the guy standing up over a white background.
Wow but I can see why with all the problems she was having, I have to say that wasn't a problem here in NJ when I had them up till this month. I didn't want to say it but yeah they sure could have found a better person for the video LOL
It just kind of sucks that in many areas, especially here in Michigan, AT&T will never be able to provide 850 MHz coverage and must instead rely solely on 1900 MHz. Even in areas where AT&T has 850 MHz in Michigan, they aren't utilizing it to launch 3G because of the fact that most of the areas are rural. Plus, especially in my area, the 850 MHz is abysmal and needs MAJOR work.
That didn't seem to be a problem for Alltel and big red. I've been very disappointed by AT&T's roll out of GSM and it's advancements. Back in about 01 or 02 I almost switched to AT&T because if you wanted rural coverage their TDMA was the way to go, so when they announced they were going the GSM route I was thrilled. I figured there would be awsome nationwide coverage and I could get into all the really cool GSM imports that I was deprived of living in CDMA land since 1997. I so wanted AT&T to build out a great GSM and 3G network nationwide, but I just haven't seen it yet.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16) The problem lies with the original plans to deploy over the 1900 and now that has fired back but in areas where they are using the 850 things seem to be real good. Here in the Dc area service has been excelent and Jay might be able to confirm this too. Now with the iPhone I hinestly blame Apple on this issue they wanted to rain on the Pre parade and take away from it's thunder and as a result it brought issues to at&t To my understanding is that network changes where being made in advance but work is taking time and that has played major roll. Ny thoughts that in a couple months when all is in line all the iPhone users will be happy again and by then they will say all is good and am staying as is. If VzW going to get the iPhone they better be ready and start prepping their network for the heavy load
