Hello everyone I'm new here! I need advice! I've never had this happen to me in all my years of having cell phones. Last week I dropped my phone in water. I got all my features back except the main button in the keypad, which is my "select", "send" or "enter" button. Now I can't open or send texts, open pictures, or check the internet on my phone. My battery life declined also. I'm not eligable for a new phone until next year, and really can't afford a new one. What do you think is the best route for me to take? Send it for repair? Buy a refurb? Buy on ebay? Thank you, for any suggestions!

Its too late for that phone... The thing to do whena phone gets wet is to immediately remove the battery & SIM card. Towel off the phone, and place it in a bag of rice or damp-rid for a few days in a warm (but not hot) location. This does not always work, but it gives the phone the best chance for survival. Since you have powered up the phone the damage has been done. Sometimes replacing the keyboard can fix your particular problem, but in my experience phones that have gotten wet invariably have more serious problems that continuously crop up until the user just replaces the phone.

Your best bet is to just cut your losses on that phone and replace it with either a used phone, or buy a new one out of contract.

One additional alternative is to contact customer service (1-800-331-0500) and inquire what low cost options they have available just to replace your phone for the duration of your contact.

If you decide to pursue the "used" option, make sure the phone you get has the 850/1900 mhz frequencies, is locked to Cingular/at&t or is an unlocked GSM phone, and if you want to use MMS/data services, it is best to not take a chance on a phone that was previously locked to T-Mobile.

Hey! Thanks guys! I appreciate it. Do you think that I will still be able to get pictures that I took, video and certain pictures that I had in text messages out of my phone?

If you have a memory card for the phone and they were saved to the memory card, you will just move the memory card to your new phone or transfer the items to your pc via a card reader, etc.

If they weren't saved to a memory card, you can try using Nokia PC Suite (free download from the NokiaUSA website support page). You'll need to use the USB as I don't believe you'll be able to pair the pc and 6555 via bluetooth without using the "select/enter" key. I'm not familiar enough with using PC Suite to know for certain if this will work, but it may allow you to transfer content from the phone's memory without requiring the use of any of the phone's keys.

This could cause a short circuit of the USB port in the computer. Two of the four leads carry ± 5 volts. The original poster should take his SIM card and move on. Nokia 6555 phones are selling for $80.00 and up plus shipping.

Thanks for the info. I would not have realized that if the phone is completely dried out it could do harm to your pc. No wonder I really don't like USB cables. LOL!!

Agree'd, this should only run you around 35.00-50.00 and you'll have all your data back.

It is amazing that people post in these forums with urgent pleas for help and never come back to check on the advice. The original poster has not returned since his reply on August 10, 2008 at 8:54 AM.
