My "itch" mainly stems from your remark about the resale of my 5. If I wait for the 6 to be released, it will definitely take a major hit once used 5s devices flood eBay. Even though there is no real need to do anything now, it may make sense to do so.

Very good point. I plan to keep my 5 this time, for app testing & development. The 4's I have are just too slow with iOS 7 Otherwise I'd do the same as you. Do you already have a 64 Gb model now?

No, I have a 32GB model. I just did my math with the most expensive option, knowing that anything else I chose would be less. :p

I agree that if you go with the 12 month NEXT, there is no reason for AppleCare+. Just use included 12 month warranty for everything except for breakage.

Then for loss, theft (not included in AppleCare+ anyways), and for breakage, I'll use my $17/year rider on my home insurance policy (5K for all my electronic stuff, $50 deductible).

    That saves $99 right there.

    Good luck with decision time.

Anthro: How's this for a real use-case. Last year when the Samsung Galaxy Note3 was released (2013), I was only 1 year into my 2yr agreement, having gotten the Note2 the year before that (2012). So I had no options but to pay full price. So I went to Best Buy knowing they have a buy-back plan. The Note3 was over $800. I was credited $200 for the Note2. Still, I paid over $600 + tx. But my ATT plan remained the same.

I installed a 64Gb microSD in my phone, so that, along with the already built-in 32Gb gives me more space than I'll use for a long time.

Well, it is done. I now have a 5s.

The rep at the AT&T store said AT&T will be doing away with contract options altogether come April. Not sure I believe that or if he was just blowing smoke up my bum...my contract would have ended in April, and obviously he could see that information. :p

Now there's some vivid imagery: "Not sure...if he was just blowing smoke up my bum." Is that even possible? LOL

So now I'm feeling envious. Maybe I'll do the same. Perhaps buy outright to save my Next for October.

    Decision time for me too!

Well, if they intend to do away with the contracts then I expect the prices to drop since I'm assuming that means we won't be getting subsidies on phones anymore.

Yes the plans. I am note sure why phone prices would need to drop if subsidies were eliminated. Though I'd welcome it. :)

I meant prices on the plans, but dropping phone prices would be nice too.

Yeah, would be nice. I had a bit of surgery today, and am confined to couch...giving me lots of time to think about upgrading. I think I will, and then sell something in October, if the new and interesting is there in the iPhone 6.

So if I go with a Next to upgrade (12 month) and then in October (8 months) buy out the contract, I could up to another Next at that time, or only buy an full price phone?

UPDATE: Confirmed with ATT on line chat. I can buy the balance out in October, and restart NEXT for the iPhone 6, and then be on a 12 month cycle with Apple's release dates. Cool

I also had no credits (2 lines x $25) for my lines that were under contract prior to 2/2/14. I tried to chat with AT&T to resolve it, but that was worthless...and I told AT&T as much in the follow-up texts they sent me. AT&T called me back and applied a $75 credit to my account...$50 for the lines and $25 for my trouble. They've also already scheduled a follow-up call with me for after my next bill cycle to ensure the credits applied as they should on that bill.

Et tu, AntroMatt? I wonder how wide spread this is...AT&T seems to think they are in the right.

$25 for your trouble? Good deal...I got nothing when they resolved my mistake in billing with these NEXT plans.

The amount was right (for Mobile Share) on our last bill, but it was still indicating the Family plan which was confusing. Hopefully the March bill will be a proper indication.

So I just switched to the Mobile Share plan for my two lines and disconnected my third line. The savings are not a lot in my case but will be around $30/month after my one line is out of contact.

I had them post date to the start of my billing cycle, and asked a few times if this was going to be a smooth transition without advance billing etc and was assured yes. I will wait and see what happens on my next bill.

I also looked at getting the 5s but it didn't make too much sense to get it now with the 6 coming in Fall and without any major innovation over the 5 IMHO - sorry Eileen, viewfly, and Meanie. :D

Good job Charlie. No matter. We'll enjoy the 5S until then and I'll pick up the 6 in the fall. Unless it's too big.

Now you can tether your ipad easily.

Good luck with your new plan Charlyee. To me, any plan that will save you money every month is a great one!

Btw, since you already have the iPhone 5, I think your decision to wait for the iPhone 6 is a good one. It should be out around September if the current "rumors" about it are true. I decided to try the Note 3 to get used to using a larger device. This way going from the 4" screen on the 5S to a larger screen on the next iPhone won't be such a big deal. http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/samsung/83429-just-ordered-the-galaxy-note-3-a.html

Well the second step of converting my Family Talk plan to Mobile share has been accurately and so far every shows accurately.

I would like to keep this thread on topic so I will make a new thread for iPhone 6 speculations. Please post iPhone 6 comments and I will move some of the posts from here to the new thread as well if appropriate.

My balance has posted, judging by the amount I won't have to call about getting my $25/line back. Bill details are not available yet, so don't know whether that international message was free or not :)

My balance was posted today as well and it is almost correct.

Hubby's feature phone was showing in their system as an iPhone (that's actually quite hilarious). She noted the IMEI down and changed it but there is no way to back date that, so she credited my account for the difference.

She also made a note to call me next month to make sure my charges are correct. All in all not too much got goofed up.

There don't appear to be any "usage charges" on the bill, so it's possible the international message wasn't billed. But because the bill is still somewhat messed up (they failed to switch everything properly on the first day of the billing cycle) I'm a month away from a proper bill :)

So after all that discussion it turns out that instead of re classifying the Nokia as a feature phone, it was re classified as a Smartphone under contract. Two wrongs make a right? :p

When I was on the phone getting that rectified I was told that my Mobile Share 1 plan is going down by $15/month. That's great news but I do hope that there isn't another mess up next month. :D

Ha it's a good thing we don't value our time on the phone with $$

    That reduces our discount.
