And yet another update! Talked for a long time with Sprint today, and they "contacted" the message server (meaning they had me send a message and they looked into my "acct" on the intermediary for any errors to be reported back) and there were no reports of errors sent back to Nextel tech support. They suggested I have one of my friends call AT&T to see if they could troubleshoot anything...but I am not about to have a friend waste their time doing that...the 5 or so people I send pics to on AT&T will just have to go without. I also found out today that my friend with the BlackJack found the second page after the links so he could also see the pic. So using the @mms.att.net seems to be working, so long as the person on the receiving end can figure out what is going on. At least for people with PDA phones/data plans.
My fiance and I used to be able to send videos back and forth just fine. He's on Alltell and I'm on ATT (formerly Cingular). Now, suddenly, he can't receive video from me. He gets the black screen as someone else posted above. He can send it back to me and I can open it again just fine. ATT tells me it's an "ongoing intercarrier issue" with Alltell and that they've tried software updates to solve the problem but it only works for short periods of time. Alltell tells my fiance that they are prioritizing his "problem ticket" and they'll get back to him. It's been weeks. Obviously SOMEONE knows there's a MMS problem but no one is owning up to who's fault it is. I'm just wondering why we aren't hearing more about this and that more people aren't complaining, expecially if they are paying for multimedia packages. Does anyone know more about this issue. I don't understand why videos used to work and then just suddenly STOPPED working. We can send pictures back and forth just fine and I can send videos to my daughter who is also on ATT.
Nope-just happened out of the blue. Now when I look at my delivery reports for anything I send him it just says "waiting".
Yes, it seems bizarre that it worked for us for six years!! They are supposed to call me back on June 2nd. I'll post their response.
Interesting problem. Question: Are your 5 friends all using 'smartphone/pda' etc? Any of them have just one of the basic phones that has MMS on it? 2nd Question: Can you re-size the photo before sending? ie can the camera's resolution be reset from maximum pixels to 640x480? Unfortunately, I have zero friends with Sprint to try for myself. I had this problem myself within ATT awhile back. Clearly some garbage is being adding to the message. But who is doing that? PC Gmail to mms.att.net works Sprint mms phone appl to ATT phone appl mms does not work ATT phone appl mms to Sprint phone appl mms Works? Sprint MMS email appl to mms.att.net Doesn't work...sort of work some phone? Sprint MMS email appl to PC Gmail Works phone email to phone email Works? do you have that? So if I got this right, the phone, 'system', inter carrier, Sprint or ATT seems to recognize that it came from the MMS phone appl, and adds something to it, when the MMS appl is only used in mms mode, not email mode. And only with ATT
You've pretty much summed it up perfectly. Only 1 of the 5 ATT people I tried to send pics to does not have a smartphone. When I send her a pic using just her phone number, she gets a corrupted/bad image. If I send to her @mms.att.net address, she doesn't get anything at all. She has no data plan...not sure if that matters or not. And yes, I can receive pics from any ATT user without a problem.
Your phone is a 1.3 mpixel camera phone. Under settings you should be able to reduce it down to 640 x 480. Can you do that and send it to her again? Just to humor me. It worked for me; may not for you. I don't know what it is about smartphones and MMS: all carriers didn't want to give MMS to smartphones in the beginning (not just the iPhone). I found this from a Sprint customer in 2007: For a long time, Sprint's smart devices (PPC-6700, Mogul, various BlackBerries, Moto Q, etc) have lacked a basic feature that even the low end phones all have: MMS. Every other phone or smart device, low or high end, by every other carrier and manufacturer, has MMS ability. Yet Sprint has decided that the highest-end customers of Sprint don't need MMS. Why? ________________________________________ From the recent BAW Chat session, mluria : Hi David, glad you are answering our questions. My question is this: Why doesn't Sprint's smartphones offer MMS when US Cellular, Alltel and Verizon do? I refer to the Blackberry 8130 and the Moto Q and Q9c David Owens : We have in the past made the business decision to not use our picturemail platform for PDA OS's due to complexity. There are many ways to share pictures on those platforms which is our recommended approach. PDA's receive MMS messages with no issues. But it's not limited to Sprint. I guess carriers feel that smartphones are much smarter than MMS. But that doesn't help you out at all.
I have my phone set to take pics at 640 x 480 by default since anything larger and I cannot send it as a MMS. I did try sending a 160 X 120 photo as well, but it had the same result.
I've just started having this problem also. Me and my friend have been sending a lot texts and MMS back and forth for a few weeks now. We both have had the same phones for over 6months, I have a windows based smartphone (Motorola Q9h Global) on ATT, she has the LG Rumor on Sprint. Just today we stopped receiving each others MMS. Just all of a sudden it stop working. No plan changes, no phone upgrades, nothing has changed from yesterday to today. But all day long it hasn't worked. When I send a picture, on my phone it says it was sent, but she receives nothing and vice versa. I tried searching the internet for help but it seems like other people have had the same problems with no fix insight. I tried sending it using the 10-digit-#@pm.sprint.com but it still doesn't work at all. Who knows what is going on! I don't know which carrier is at fault because neither of us have had this problem before.
