Ok, I won't tell anyone there's an Air Force base there :coolshade ...does the water tower look familiar? My greetings to the 5th Combat Comm atriot:
I used to live close by, my dad was stationed at Ft Benning with the 75th Ranger Regiment as a 92Y. I forget the MOS numbers, haha.
Was that "Air Force" sign always painted on there? I don't recall that being on there :headscrat. ...but then that was a long time ago, and I was too busy setting up radios and playing pocket-pool to really notice
I really don't know. I never paid attention to it. It has the newer Air Force logo (I think from 2003?) so its been painted fairly recently--how long ago were you there? Are we even sure its the same tower? There's a few on base and that looked like the one you posted. This one is near temporary lodging at 12th and Warner Robins St.
...hmmm...I was there in the late 90's, so before the new logo. This pic is taken on a training field that's located: if you drive in the front gates, go streight almost to the other side of the base, then hang a right. In that corner. This tower must be somewhere near the dining facility, I think....
Ive been to a ton of those bases in Georgia. FT Stuart, Hunter Army AirField, FT Gordon, Benning, Warner etc. Those were the days.
That's a lot of Army bases--coincidence? I've only been to Dobbins, Robins, and Fort Gillem in Georgia. Robins has been completely rearranged. Main gate has been moved, buildings and roads removed, etc. Here's the tower with VZW on it: 32.5942 -83.5804 - Google Maps Here's another tower that I don't remember what it looks like off hand, but is near the base restaurant (although there's other dining facilities, but again they've all moved in the last couple years): 32.622126,-83.591613 - Google Maps
