This is for customers on the family value plans http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/7/75...customers-carry-over-unused-data-mobile-share Its been a while, but I think I actually predicted this. Many responded it would never happen. "Oh ye of little faith." (LOL)
Thanks. It appears that it is only for a month unlike T-Mobiles, which is valid for a year. Sent from my iPad Air 2 using Tapatalk
http://www.macrumors.com/2015/01/07/att-monthly-data-rollover/ Quote: Following T-Mobile's recently announced "Data Stash" program allowing customers to roll over unused data to subsequent months, AT&T today announced it will launch a similar data program later this month. The new feature will be available at no additional charge to the 50 million users on the carrier's Mobile Share Value plans. "Rollover Data is an added benefit of being an AT&T Mobile Share Value customer and it’s just another way that we’re saying thanks to our more than 50 million plus Mobile Share Value subscribers," said Glenn Lurie, President and CEO, AT&T Mobility. "We’re providing even more value and flexibility, and the best part is it’s simple, shareable and easy to track for our customers. All Mobile Share Value customers get this automatically." AT&T's new Rollover Data feature does differ in one important respect from T-Mobile's program. While T-Mobile's rollover data expires after 12 months, AT&T customers can roll over unused data for only one month, with users tapping into the rollover data only after their normal monthly allotment has been exhausted
I feel I must take this opportunity to remind everyone that I'm on a grandfathered unlimited data plan for $25/mo...
True, but that is better than it was before when there were no data-minutes carry over options. On an average, I anticipate the carry over will be about 10Gig/month. (I have the 15gig plan and only use 2gig in any one month. But when I travel, that could jump significantly. Since I'll have nearly 30Gig in any particular month I can now breathe easy when I'm on the road.) In the long run, I anticipate data going the same way voice went--eventually unlimited. When I think back to my first cell phone plan, I was paying 10 cents per minute for both out-going and incoming calls AND that was on top of my monthly service fee. When texting was introduced, it likewise was a fixed price for each message and if you typed long messages, it got broken into more than one message which meant you were actually paying for multiple messages. Now, both of those services are essentially free and unlimited and the carriers are using data as their cash-cows.
Yes, it's certainly better than nothing at all. I too anticipate that I'll at most have a spike in any one billing period.
My first cellular plan was 100 minutes peak, and 300 minutes night & weekend for $29.99/mo. Text messages sent/received counted as one minute each against the plan minutes.
I don't understand how this is data rollover if it expires in a month?.... Aren't they basically resetting your data pool every billing cycle which means you don't get anything to rollover anyway?
Hello bobolito, nice to see your post. They reset the data pool and add what was not used the month before. In the screenshot my 3GB plan ended up to be 3.29 because I had unused data of 0.29 GB. In the coming billing cycle the .29 will go away and the difference between the 3 and what I used this time, will get added to it. So for me, unless I have a bad month I will have an allowance of 3+ every month. Hope that made sense Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk
confirming CDG's post above.... I had a 10GB plan. When ATT offered to up the plan to 15GB for no extra monthly charge, I took it. Lately, my data comsumption changed when I got Comcast so that I wasn't 100% dependent on a wireless wifi connection. Now I use on average 2GB a month. That carries over a huge 13GB per month so that on average every month I have 15+13 or 28GB to use. I plan on (hopefully) taking a road trip soon, so that extra data in that one month will be useful.
The roll-over has worked well for me. I use between 1-1.5 GB per month normally. I was on a 2GB plan that they upgraded to 3GB for the same $$. I go to Florida several times a year and am away from my WIFI connection. While in Florida the last 2 weeks I used 4.2 GB. With the rollover I usually have about 4-5 GB available. No over data limit charge.
