Simple, are you being assimilated or sold off? Push "Yes" if you are being Assimilated or "No" if you are not.
My prepay Alltel account will be assimilated into Verizon wireless. My phone number is based in Newnan, GA, an Atlanta suburb. There's lots of competition in that area as a result and Verizon will beep both 850 licenses there.
Most customers will transition to Verizon. The total number of customers originally set to be put in the Divested and HST companies was just over 2 million of Alltel's 14 million customers. Then the Justice Department decided that Verizon didn't have to sell the markets headed for the HST so the number is just shy of 2 million now. So in the grand scheme of things it's a very small percentage of Alltel customters that will be divested.
Sold off to, hopefully US Cellular... But I'm right near a border of a non-divested area. So would I lose the handover into Spartanburg County & Cleveland County, NC once the transition is complete? (It'll be two separate companies - new license border). If this transition will affect my coverage, then I'll ask to be ported to Verizon. As this will be a negative change...
I'm in the Divested group...one of the "very small percentages" and where I live, AT&T is going to be the only other option it seems. So...would this count as a "Sold Off"?
I know - the carriers don't run rampant in my part of Ohio either - seems we are the economically undesirable to the cellular world. Will be interesting to see who picks us up but I'm still so happy I'm not "forced" to go to Verizon since I deal with them on the work lines and would prefer not to in my personal.
It is interesting that about 15% of alltel customers are being divested. But 41% of Wireless Advisor Alltel customers are being divested (as of this posting). I don't know what it means, but I'm sure there's a reason.
Thanks for mentioning that before me I think it's fair to let the divested customers decide to choose the existing Verizon network, or the new carrier that buys their market. Each market is different, and giving customers a choice sounds like a good and fair idea.
I know the reason why i answered as sold off is because i knew i was being sold off and went looking for info on who might buy my area. And that search led me to wirelessadvisor.com. Did anyone else see the WSJ note this week about AT&T and other interested buyers? Reposeted on engadget and other sites. AT&T reportedly eyeing post-merger Verizon Wireless assets - Engadget
That is true, there could be a number of local media outlets talking about alltel customers not becoming Verizon customers in the merger, but being sold off to other companies. Cox Cable has also been viewed as a potential buyer. I think they would only be interested in areas they already provide cable service though. In at least some of their areas, they already run cables to cell towers to provide data for others. They seem to have a good relationship with Sprint, so they should immediately be able to provide nearly national service through roaming agreements. Customers that end up with Cox are in for a pleasant surprise IMO.Bloomberg.com: Technology US Cellular and an untold number of smaller, regional wireless providers may also be interested if they provide service near your location.
