Army, Air Force March Forward With Cingular Thursday September 21, 10:00 am ET Military Branches Re-Up with Nation's Largest Wireless Company Under New Blanket Purchase Agreement Covering Tens of Thousands of Users ATLANTA, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and Defense Telecommunications Services - Washington (DTS-W) have signed a blanket purchase agreement with Cingular Wireless. The new, five-year agreement will consolidate all of Cingular's more than 50,000 DTS-W, Army and Air Force subscribers under one contracting vehicle, and Cingular expects to add several thousand new subscribers in the coming months. This will provide a single pricing structure for devices, accessories, wireless services and management options, and will enable the military branches to administer wireless usage more efficiently and cost- effectively. Under the new agreement, DTS-W, Army and Air Force users will be able to choose wireless phones and PDAs in Cingular's broad device portfolio and have access to many of Cingular's innovative voice and data solutions. These include such services as Cingular's UMTS/HSDPA-based BroadbandConnect, Push- to-Talk and BlackBerry®, and support for government-specific technology such as Sectera® Interoperable Security Architecture and CAC Readers. They will be able to order these devices and services, and manage their wireless accounts through a customized Web portal built for them with state of the art security features under Cingular's Premier program. "This new agreement with the Army, DTS-W and the Air Force ensures that Cingular will continue its long and valued relationship with these branches of the military for many years to come," said Chris Hill, vice president, Government Solutions, for Cingular Wireless. "These users now have a single contract vehicle and dedicated customer support for cost-effective wireless products and services. Because Cingular's network is based on the global wireless standard, GSM, military users have the ability to communicate securely and reliably whether they are on the other side of the base, across the country or halfway around the world." Cingular Wireless counts some 1,800 federal, state and local government agencies as customers, and provides wireless services to 95 of the Fortune 100 companies and more than 80 percent of the Fortune 500.
My theory is that Jones isn't really interested in wireless technology at all. He seems to primarily care about marketing. No offense, some of my best friends are in Marketing....really
I just think GSM gives Jones that warm & squishy feeling inside. Can you blame him for wanting to share that with everyone else? -Jay
Lol no, I can't blame him, but at the same time it would be nice to see something other than propoganda.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: LG-CU500 Obigo/WAP2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) It does? Dang who knew?
That the greatest cellular carrier ever in the history of the world is......... OK, now I feel better knowing that we're all on the same page.
Yeah, Jones works for Cingular in North Jersey at the Help center & keeps posting everything positive to keep his job.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: LG-CU500 Obigo/WAP2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) So its all about job security.
It's either GSM... or a bad burrito that caused that warm & squishy feeling inside!!!:browani:   :lmao: :loony:
You just don't understand Wiggy... a bad burrito makes your shorts feel warm & squishy, not your insides. Jay
Isn't this just like a company setting up a contract for discounted cell phone service for their employees? Why is this even worth a thread?
Nope, it's Wal Mart. My cdma fans likes likes to read them, look at all my intense replies. But i think the Marines may go VZW.
And why do you think this? Do you have any involvement whatsoever with military telecommunications? Do you not realize that the Marine Corp. falls under the SecNav (Secretary of the Navy) and they share many telecom policies and BPA's. Do you not know that a BPA is merely a pre-negotiated contract for future procurement and in no way provides exclusionary contracting. Did you know that all military branches hold contracts will every major carrier? To be officially clear: DTS-W manages contracts with four cellular vendors (six pre-mergers) (Cingular/AWS, Sprint/Nextel, T-Mobile, Verizon), giving customers the flexibility to purchase the cellular products and services that best meet the needs of their individual agency. Objectives of the contract include: To provide the DoD community with the flexibility to procure cellular services from a vendor of choice To provide cellular services with the choice of receiving direct or consolidated invoicing
So what you are saying is now military users can choose a Cingular phone, or go with any of the other major carriers? This thread is funny.

It is a renegotiate/renewal. And yes, they can basically buy nearly any device from any carrier due to the plethora of contractual procurement choices.
