I bought my sister a Tracfone Nokia 1100 for her birthday. I live in VA and she lives in FL. When you buy a phone from Tracfone they ask you where the phone will be used. I thought this was because they wanted to make sure they have service in your area. The new phone came with SIM card. When I send this to my sister in FL will the SIM card work when she activates it in FL or is the SIM card programmed to only work in VA? Thanks
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1558; en; U; ssr)) I think that they ask for a zip to verify service. Your sis should be fine using her SIM in florida. Depending on the zip you provide, you'd either be getting a SIM that prefers Tmobile or she'd get a SIM that prefers Cingular. In florida, trac uses cingular for its gsm service. I don't know about virginia. Either way, both types of sims work in florida. I wouldn't worry unless she goes into the rural areas of the state.
Just be sure if she uses the SIM that she uses it in a TracFone GSM handset since TracFone SIMs will not work in other GSM handsets since the firmware in TracFones is unique to TracFone since it debits in the handset rather than have the network do the billing.
