Yeah, pretty much the same kind of upgrade as the 3G was to the 3GS...the S meaning speed, as it did then.

New A5 processor, more battery power, better camera/video, and same powerful retina display.

The Siri thing is nice. I have it now on my iPhone 4. I say 'did i need an umbrella today' and it tells me that the rain pattern is 50/50 for the morning and 25/75 for the evening, along with weather maps and forecasts.

I hope that they don't take it away from the 4 and make it exclusive for the 4S. The message on my Siri app for phone this morning was that it is being replaced with a smarter better one on the iPhone 4S. And that it will be leaving home on Oct 15th.

I would be upset if I lose it. For now I will wait until the iPhone 5....but I can not help if someone give me one for Xmas....

Very happy that the shape is the same...

I think peoples expectations were so high...as if the new phone would have an artificial gravity field to it so that if one dropped the phone, it would hover 6 inches above the ground!!!

It seems all the news outlets were believing this would be the iPhone 5 unveiling. i found it odd that the press all got it wrong  So is Apple saving that release for Nov/Dec xmas shopping then?

I have something like that on my Android phone. I ask it if I need an iPhone today and it tells me "No" :p

You did indeed lose Siri today on the 4. This is exactly the kind of sh!t that apple does that pisses people like me off. Clearly that app runs fine on the 4, as it has been available on the 4 for over a year. Now, they integrate into the OS, restrict it to only the new phone, and disable it for people who already had it. Shame on them!

I'm not seeing a "G" after that 4, or anywhere else in their specs. Is this thing 3G only?

I predict that the iPhone 4S will sell very well, just as the iPhone 4 has done. And now it is pretty much on all carriers in the US and worldwide (including China).

The iPhone series will probably maintain its current position as the best selling single piece of smartphone hardware globally. It just works well, and people recognize the hardware quality and the smooth iOS behind it. No other carrier has made a single phone hit like this in the smartphone business recently. It has flaws to be sure, but people are putting their money down.

    Yes, it is 3G only.

According to Apple's presentation yesterday, its improved technology will allow the iPhone 4s to approach data speeds of current 4g phones out there, even though the phone will utilize 3g networks.

So, you are used to seeing 14 Mbps download speeds on Verizon's LTE on the Bionic etc, you will not be seeing those on iPhone 4s.

    But you would see 14MB on HSPA+ :D :D

I believe Apple might have infiltrated fake info to the gossip media to entertain them while they continued to work on their actual product. Very smart move if that's what happened.

Now, what do you think they'll call the next iPhone? iPhone 5 or iPhone 4G? I can bet that the next one will be LTE.

As stated on Apple's Tech sheet and elsewhere, the 4S supports 14.4Mbps HSDPA. These speeds will be attainable in Europe/Asia and other places. Maybe not with ATT in all places, and certainly not with Verizon/Sprint with EVDO. It is a network issue for ATT at the moment, not the iPhone.

But certainly true, for the US, it is not near LTE speeds.

I think you lost me on this one, why would getting people hyped up believing they were getting a higher end product than actually intended, be a smart move?

The next one is going to be called iLTE, of course. . :D ;)

We will see what happens on Oct 14th. As of today it still works. But the SIRI that I have is not as fully functional as the SIRI advertised for the iPhone 4S.

I do notice that the Siri app has been pulled from the app store...I just wonder if my copy will become non - functional.

If you don't know Siri, here is the apple promo: Apple - iPhone 4S - Ask Siri to help you get things done.

The current story is that a iPhone prototype was lost and from that Chinese case makers made high volume cases for a tapered iPhone, and other made CAD models of it.

Problem is that this phone was a pre prototype: may be real or will never see the light of day.

Was it a plant or not? who knows. Certainly Apple is upset with the chinese leaks and fakes....maybe their way of teaching a lesson.

LTE most likely will be 3rd quarter 2012. At the earliest. Waiting on the low power chip from Qualcomm.

Apple did release controlled leaks about the 4S through channels like WSJ, to lower expectations. So I did not see that everyone thought there would be a 5 out there. At least half though it would be a 4S or the like. And on some official sites, the only used a place holder '5', not knowing what it really meant, which added to the consumer confusion.

But whatever, the only difference that I see the current 4S has missing from the expected 5 is 1) a larger screen and 2) LTE (which really was not on the list). So in the end, it pretty much had all that was expected, except the bigger screen. And even that was far fetched when you sat down and thought about it.

Lol, first of all I meant to say "upward of 14.4mbps", but irrespective you are not going to see anywhere near the 14.4. The max I get on my HSPA+ Atrix is around 6-7 Mbps of d/l with a perfect signal.

The point I was trying to make was that Motorola, Panatec, and others have LTE phones out that have phenomenal d/l speeds, so for a CDMA user this would not compare.

I'm not sure we'll ever see a larger screen on the iPhone. That's why there's an iPad.

Lost? Like in a bar somewhere? Are they still saying that? I think the last 3 iphone versions were "lost" or "accidentally left" in a bar somewhere.

They say old design, but to me that is one of the positive aspects of the iPhone. The old design works, for some the form factor is just right. It is comfortable to hold and talk with, and pocket friendly.

I agree. The old design is actually the most beautiful design ever and it doesnt look old to me. It's simple, elegant, trendy, good looking, durable.

After using a 4.3" screen on my Motorola Photon I don't think I would ever want to go back to a smaller screen like the iphone 4 has.

Only complaint is the short battery life I get with the Photon. Have to charge it twice a day (but I do use it for texting all day long).
