For those who have noticed, when you transfer an mp3 for a ring tone, you can;t really do more than one (unless its itty bitty). I tried to "check" some of the "factory" pics along with some of the ones I've added (same as the mp3's). Then you have the option of deleting checked images, which got me excited, but when I confirmed the delete of 5 images, it confirmed with only 1 imaged deleted. I just trying to find a way to get rid of the crap on there that I don't want. Okay, if this isn't possible, then does anyone know of a certain software that will let you edit mp3's to shorten them and fade them at the ends...? I just transfered from Sprint to Verizon and the only software I knew of with Sprint was Snap media. I have read some places where people refer to Mobile Phone tools, but I'm unfamilar with it. Please, someone SHOW ME THE LIGHT! By the way, highly enjoying the phone. Love the fact that I can use MP3's as ringtones, and transfer pics if I'm on the move through email (phonenumber@vzwpix.com). I'm not that pleased with the pictures it takes, but that's not why I purchased the phone. Please, anyone, HELP ME OUT!
id like to know as well if there is any way to erase the usless pictures that the factory puts on there....
i used itunes.....heres a link to a page for help http://mysite.verizon.net/vze8kn4d/gtawydrvr/id5.html
MP3Trim is a free mp3 editor. You can find it on the net or PM me and I can email it to you. To get rid of the factory pics, get a USB cable and a program called BitPim. You can go into the phones file system and backup your GIN programs and delete those annoying worthless pics. When you first delete them, they show the picture on the phone with an X for an icon, but after retsrting the phone, they are gone. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
john6six - BitPim most likely will not work with the V710. The V710 uses BREW 2.0, and from what I've read, a unique file system, neither of which is compatible with the current version of BitPim.
I have already used it. Version 0.7.15. You can copy files back and forth and delete the pic files discussed in this thread.
Well, I'll just say for the record that while BitPim might WORK with the V710, it's not SUPPORTED - so if you run into problems, don't bother contacting the developers for help.
As you can see at the bottom of my original post regarding using BitPim to remove these pics and mp3s, in ALL CAPS, is USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. This is for someone who isn't going to cry if they see smoke coming out of their phone. Any program that it used to connect to your phone and is not supported by Verizon or Motorola, is a risky proposition. I used it successfully and cleared up a bunch of space in my phones memory. Although the pics don't really take up that much space, navigating the pics folder is much easier without them there.
Bitpim wont connect to my phone. Any suggestions. I can connect with Mobile Phone Tools (MPT) just fine. I desperately want to rid my phone of the useless crap. Help me!
ok, i've connected by going to the "file system" tab however i dont know which files are the graphics and sounds i dont want. Help me!
You can go down to MOtorola and expand that. Go to shared folder and look for Picture. When you open that up, you will see all of the pictures on the phone. Just delete them. Make sure you are looking at the files on the phone and not the files on the transflash card.
thanks for helping me find the location of the files. Now I have another problem. I have a straight cable and according to a message i got, it said straight cables are not supported. They will appear to work but are unstable.
I am having same problem. I cant connect to phone. When I click on the + sign under filesystem it says can't detect any candidate ports... Can anyone make any suggestions, maybe settings are wrong.. I manually set the com port but now I get this: 23:15:49.967 COM6: Opening port COM6, 115200 baud, timeout 3.000000, hardwareflow 0, softwareflow 0 23:15:50.000 COM6: Open of comm port suceeded 23:15:50.000 Other CDMA Phone: Getting file contents 'Retrieving...' 23:15:53.015 COM6: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read 23:15:53.046 COM6: Changed port speed to 38400 23:15:56.546 COM6: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read 23:15:56.578 COM6: Changed port speed to 115200 23:16:00.078 COM6: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read 23:16:03.078 Other CDMA Phone: Now in brew mode 23:16:03.125 Exception: An unexpected exception has occurred.
Are you using a Motorola cable? BitPim is mainly designed for use on LG phones. They are the only phones with full functionality. I have also had success using QPST with both my Moto and Samsung a670. That program is made by Qualcomm and supports most phones with their chipset.
The cable is some generic usb cable I got off ebay. Don't know who makes it. It does work with Mobile Phone Tools though. I assume you're supposed to select "Other CDMA Phone" Are there any other settings I could check?
I changed it to LG VX6000, even though its the V710 because I figured thats the latest phone listed. I can now read the filesystem but getting errors when drilling down on subfolders Also, one of the subfolders is called "picturee" (note the extra e, its not a typo). And I also have a normal "picture" folder
I have pretty much the same outcome as you. I have the phone on other CDMA phone and set to com6 in order to get it to work. Can't get into picture or audio folders under motorola shared. I also have the "picturee" folder so I guess it's supposed to be there. I am attempting to find some better shutter sounds because the ones the phone ships with are horrible, WTF wants to hear a monkey screaming when they take a picture? I can post my results after I'm done.
After some fiddling and not having shutter sounds at all for a while I figured out how to change them. Using BitPim go to motorola/system in the file system tab. You should see shutter1, shutter2 etc save all thses files (so you can restore if all goes haywire). Next find some new sounds for your camera. I found this link quite helpful. Once you save your wav file use any wav editor to shorten/clean up the sound (I used the wav editor in Nero6) and save as a wav file. Now this was teh tricky part if you transfer teh file oven like this the phone will not read it and you will end up with no sound at all (like I had for 3 days). To fix this open up Winamp5 and drag your new shutter sounds into the playlist. Hit ctrl+P (to bring up the preferences) and choose Nullsoft Disk Writer plugin. Then hit configure. Check convert to format and change it to read IMA ADPCM 8.000 kHz, 4 Bit, Mono (Output file mode Auto). Then hit ok now hitting Play in winamp will convert your new files to the correct format. SAve your new shutter sounds with the correct names (shutter1.wav, shutter2.wav - shutter5.wav) Open up bitpim again and navigate your way to motorola/system. Right click on the sound you wish to replace and pick overwrite, locate you new sound and hit open. Bitpim will copy the new sound in place of the old one. That's all thre is to it. The shutter sound labels will not be changed (it still says chirp for example, but the soud it plays will be different). My camera now sounds like an 35mm Olympus czmera when I take a picture, Much better than the yelling monkey! I will look into changing the labels a bit later. Good luck for all who try.
For those playing with BitPim, they have released an update. It is version 1.7.18. It adds more support for the V710. I just used it and it works good.
It works better but I still cant drill down on the subfolders unders shared. Accessing my memory card is no prob though. Any updates to Qualcomm or MPT software?
Would you recommend the BitPim to a beginner? I have the V710 but don't want the factory stuff on there and am worried about screwing the phone up. Thanks
I am unable to open the ringtone and wallpaper folders in motorola shared so mayb ether is something else going on. Also is there any other link for the qualcomm software (the only like I found is not working anymore: http://www.unlocker.ru/QPST2_7.zip) If not and depending on how big it is could some kind soul perhaps email it to me? PM if you are willing to e-mail me the file. As long as you don't go messing arround too much you won't hurt anything. Make sure to backup whatever you are messing with before you start changing things. be aware that you can render your phone useless, as in unable to even turn on. Not sure if the Motorola Warranty covers you trying to change the screensaver and screwing everything up!
