Well, I went out to Best Buy and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse! I now have the SLVR. I haven't had much time to play with it but the look and feel is pretty nice. Does anyone know what the button on the top of the phone does? I breifly looked through the manual and couldn't find what it did.

Are you talking about the top one on the side? that top button could be for PTT features...

what kind of a deal did you get Aje if you can share that with us...

Oh, I didn't know this phone was PTT capable. That may be it. The deal Best Buy offered me was $249 with a 1yr contract and he would give me a $40 best buy gift card. Which I was there to buy an X-Box game anyways so I thought that would work out pretty good. But I even got a little better deal because the employee who was checking me out screwed up. Put it this way, I am verry happy... Hopefully I will be as happy with CIngular as I was with Verizons network. I am not too worried though, I know quite a few people with Cingular.

    Hi Tony.

I guess it might go by provider. I have a Cingular branded one and there are three left side buttons like most Moto's, up/down volume and a smart key. Those are the only keys on mine. On the right side is the mini-usb jack and the slot for the transflash card.

Same here, since it's really not called a button like you describe but a battery door latch.

True, if you look at the one on phonescoop you will see that it has a side key on the opposite side.

Ronnie, how are you liking your SLVR as oppose to the Razr?

    I can't put it down :)

I haven't had a candy bar phone in such a long time and now that I got one in the RAZR format I really like it. It has a great feel to it. Not a lightweight either but for me just right.

You know from the past I really loved the RAZR but this L7 seems, to me, to have better quality in the areas that count the most, like call clarity, signal strength and the thing that surprised me the most, the battery. No matter how much I try, it is hard to wear this battery down. iTunes, web browsing, phone calls and all I haven't come close to draining this battery.

I also like, maybe in the Cingular brand only, how they extended the phonebook entries that you can make such as full home address, zip codes, country and even birthdays in addition to the regular phonebook entries.

I do have to admit there is one thing, so far just one :) , that I need to get used to. My fingers are not those of a Tim Burton animated character so using the number pad is a little difficult for me punching in numbers without hitting three keys at a time. but I am overcoming that one as I use it.

That was the one thing that stop me from getting it, i guess i can always grow one of my nails longer to tap on the keys...lol
I would love to have the Razr v3x, but we all know the situation on that...

Tony, that button on my SLVR is the voice dial button. That is one of the things I don't like about this phone. It is the old voice dial where you have to record a name and associate it with a contact. On the E815, you simply had to say "call home" and it would recognize what you wanted to do. This isn't something I use all the time, it is just a step back in technology in my opinion.

    SLVR for use with Verizon

Does anyone know if I buy an unlocked SLVR off of Ebay if I can use it with my Verizon contract in any way?

No, you can't. SLVR is GSM and Verizon is CDMA.

Re: SLVR for use with Verizon

I don't believe there is any way to do that. Verizon uses a CDMA network and the SLVR works on GSM networks. I believe this is a hardware limitation, there has to be a SLVR made especially for a CDMA network.

    Re: best cell phone verizon

Well the E-815 and V710 were both great phones. However they don't fit your reqest for smallness or price. If you can find a V60, that was a great small phone. I loved it. Then I got cought up with bells and whisstles on phones and had to ditch it. But my V60i was definately a great phone.

Hi folks. I just found this board by googling for info on iSync (OS X) compatibility with the SLVR (it is compatible... yay!) and couldn't help but reply re: the cost of the SLVR. Apologies if this sort of message is not allowed on this list... I don't work for this company, but I think the deal they offer is great.

I was with TMobile for a couple years, and I've been out of contract for a long time. Their service is awful in Chicago, and my old Samsung e715 was toast (the battery is held on with duct tape at this point). I ended up going to one of those third party places on the web, and I ended up signing up with Cingular for the exact same rate that I would have gotten direct through Cingular, but instead of paying a lot for the SLVR L7, I ended up getting it for only $50.00 after rebate. (In addition to this these sites have way more good deals on phones, including free phones, than the actual service providers ever offer directly). The one I went through for my deal is here: http://mobileplaza.com/

It's a totally legit store and offer, and the customer service was great. I was allowed to start my service at an out-of-state address (an old address) in order to get my old phone number ported, while having the phone and rebates all be attached to my current IL address. Very cool. (I actually originally got my e715 / TMobile contract through a similar place, and that phone was free while TMobile was selling it for like $150.00 with a new contract.... these sites are the only way to do it, particularly when getting a new contract.)

It also included free 2-day Fed Ex shipping. I placed my order on Tuesday, and it arrived here today (Thursday), and my Cingular service kicked in as soon as I activated the phone. If you're thinking about getting a SLVR and want to get NEW service with Cingular, DO IT THROUGH THAT PLACE, or a similar site. I only found two places online that offer that sort of deal currently with the SLVR, though, although that will change in time.

(Of course, if you have GSM service elsewhere you can always buy an unlocked SLVR, which are available all over the web for less than what Cingular charges for the phone.)

    Cheers...

    Hey there,

    New question, same problem.

Just wondering if you got any further on this issue. I've been doing a lot of searching online and haven't found any common answers.

Is this an issue of updating software tools on the phone itself? I've tried sending it via BT and putting it in Kjava - both install the game but then fail when running it.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

    Yours,

    Alexis Santi

Does anyone have that information for ROGERS?

what exactly happens...what do i lose / gain?

Thanks everyone (new person on board here)

I bought a slivr off ebay unlocked and it's great (L7) however now i'm running into the little things that don't work right and i was told that i would have to have the software reflashed so it would work properally on the rogers network.

thanks for any and all help!

yeah not like to put you down or anything (i hate it when ppl do it to me) but ijust came back from the Philippines with a 9800peso sliver... with an exchange rate of 52.8 peso/dollar it came out to about 185 bux!

for the thread-starter's question, get thsi phone NOW!!!! it has so many features! Love the expandable memcard to about 512mb. love the size, love how it has no hinges, alas the v3. Good media phone. With the 128mb card, it can store about 120 songs @ about 128kb/s and 250 MINUTES of (high resolution "210X168" or some ____) video (that it records) or 999 pictures that it takes at VGA resolution...which isn't all too bad. Search around for the usb- 1/8in stereo adapter amplifier so you can use other headphones with it...or even hook it up to your car! only gripes? No itunes (the itunes gui for this phone sux nyways) no voice recorder (only in messaging) no chat or aim.....which sux, but i can live without.

So i say yes, just don't get the silver l7 slvr becuase there is no mem slot!

oh yeah, the built-in speaker isn't all that bad to listen to your playlists if you don't have the earphones....gets pretty loud also

    hope this helps..

I love mine! I've had it since January. I use it for email and it syncs with itunes and so I've keep my calendar in it. I use the headphones and play music all the time. It has the best battery of any phone I've ever owned. And on top of all that the reception is superb, much better than the E815 I had before it. The camera is mediocre, but that's fine with me because I don't use phone cameras that much anyway.

Does the screen scratch easy? I usually put my phone in my front right pocket by itself, so I think it would be fine, but I'm still a little concerned about scratching it.

I put a PDA screen protector on my a few days after I bought it, so mine is fine. If you keep it in a pocket by itself I would think you would be ok.
