Howdy all So here is the scoop. I'm going to be picking myself up a tablet here in a month or so. I've been working to help a friend who was on maternity leave so I've got a nice little pile. While the responsible side of me is putting most all the money in savings for a possible rainy day- the other side of me says I'm not working all summer to get nothing out of the deal. LOL So my idle dreams of finally owning an Ipad are in reach for now. But here's the dealo- I'm also considering 2 other tablets. Possibly more??? I was also looking at the Acer Iconia Tablet that's about 350... the motorola xoom and of course the ipad 3. While I love Apples...I just want to make sure that blowing 500 bucks on a 16b tablet is worth it when I could have a google android rich 32gb for less money with more features. I'm aware the Iconia tab has a usb slot on it. I know Apple's does not- but can purchase the adaptor. Not sure about the Motorola Xoom??? So the other thing that kind've bugs me about the iconia is NO camera in the back. So for me that's kind've a real teeter tottering issue. Mainly it's the price point on the iconia that gets my attention and the fact it has android which will run Flash. The Xoom I know has cameras. The apple I definitely know has cameras. I honestly am most curious if any of my little facebook games will play on apple at all. I do understand that alot of things are switching over to a apple friendly platform. I just want to make sure I'm not getting an apple because it's an apple. I really want something that will work if that makes sense. I've read the posts here on the Xoom and the ipad but was wondering if anyone could possibly shoot me some ideas and or lead me in the right direction ?? Thanks all!
What are you planning to use the tablet for? I bought one (XOOM) because my wife wanted one, and really nobody uses it much. My kids play Angry Birds on it, and maybe someone uses it to browse the web sometimes, and that's about it. Anyway, the price dropped alot on Android tablets lately, you can get a last years model for $300 or less. Have a look at ASUS, they have some nice Android tablets as well. As for the iPad vs. Android tablet, I don't know, I only used an iPad in the store. The iOS does look very well polished, and it's slimmer/lighter than my XOOM. On the other hand, the iPad doesn't allow for removable storage, and all the other "lock-downs" that Apple likes to do, so you'll lose some freedom there. As always, there's a list of positives and negatives for each. It's your call. If you don't want to drop alot of money for something that might end up sitting int he corner unused, you can pick up a decent Android tablet for a nice price. If you are going to be a "power-user" you might be better off with an iPad.
Having had a Toshiba Thrive, and now a iPad3. I would recommend you go to Best Buy or any store to try out the tablets you are interested in. I found the Thrive and all Android tablets browsers i tried where atrocious in page loading, rendering, & scrolling. Also apps i used seemed to not run well, even ones made for tablets. Also the Thrive has full sized usb, hdmi, sdcard slot. Did I use them like i thought i would, umm... No! Lol When at Best Buy I tried the iPad2 just before the iPad3 came out. The browsing was so much better, and the whole OS ran smoother compared to my Thrive and other Android tablets. The iPad was better to the point that I had to filt my ban on buying Apple products, and bought the iPad3 a few days later.
Thanks for the info I do appreciate it. I mostly want it for browsing.facebook. Blogs, forums such as this. Some Netflix. I have a laptop for the games. It would be cool if I could play my games on it however if adobe drags it down it isn't worth it. I have an older iPod touch that I use all the time but I guess I want a bigger version. Kindve a in between when I dont want to turn on the laptop, balance the laptop , mouse, etc. Does that make sense? I know I can purchase a adaptor to get sd and USB on an iPad I just want good and reliable. I really have no need for a hdmi. We have a bigger tv but it's older style so it wouldn't matter. That's about it.
You might want to read this on how to play Facebook games on the iPad: How to Play Facebook Games on an iPad Also I would not buy a Android tablet that has HoneyComb (3.X) on it. HC was a stopgap and it shows. Make sure it has Ice Cream (4.X) installed on it. BTW, having no flash on the iPad doesn't bother me at all. I can still do everything that I did on my Android phones and tablet, and it is much more stable and smooth.
SO before I open the box. I bought a Acer Iconia a700 tablet the other day. I haven't opened the box so that I could return it without any issues. I'm still very torn on the whole ipad thing. The iconia has 32g of storage versus the apple. It has Ice cream sandwich on it. I can open it and try it all out and still return and exchange for an ipad. But I'm getting the nervous thing going on and about ready to just return it unused. Of course I can sit and wait a lifetime for the perfect tablet...but there really won't ever be one. I like the idea of more custimization on the android tablets. then I was like oh get the google nexxus tab. But it doesn't have a camera. Then I hear they may be a mini ipad coming. The android says it'll open files like office files/excel,etc. While I don't do it often if would be nice to open them. Things that don't work on my ipod touch are like windows media videos that my friends send me ... I get the constant little box with the blue question mark in it. I really am struggling with this. To many buying one and then getting another is a dime a dozen. To me...well I had to work this summer and put up with a lot of emotional bullcrap from a small company in a little summer job. I'm not wanting to get something and then totally hate it. I love my ipod touch...but hate that certain things won't work. But I'm familiar with android as well and really like some of the things it has to offer. 449 seemed a good price for a tablet with extra storage...the dongle for the usb along with some other things that I know I would have to pay additional for with an ipad. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not wanting an ipad...because it's an ipad. I know I'm probably driving you all nuts....LOL I just don't have anymore money coming in after this for awhile, but really wanted to reward myself after a crazy experience. I don't want it to be a waste is what I'm saying....
I took it back.... I want to play on it first. Too many questions like if Jelly Bean will correct the touch screen lag? etc. Will just wait and play it out. According to the clerk they will eventually be putting out a demo tablet. But at least I didn't have to pay a restocking fee because I didn't open it. If anyone has any experience with the Acer a700 though- I would love to hear it. Thanks
Tablet prices are dropping every day, there's alot of good deals to be had. If you aren't sure about what you are looking for, don't drop too much cash. Maybe buy a used or refurbished one. This is a great deal, and ASUS's tablets look pretty sweet. And mainly good reviews (4/5 stars from +100 people): Newegg.com - Refurbished: ASUS Eee Pad Transformer (TF101-A1) Tablet NVIDIA Tegra 2 1.00GHz 10.1" Wide SVGA 1GB DDR2 Memory 16GB Flash NVIDIA ULP GeForce
According to user experience the Toshiba Thrive is having a good review. But i like the new Asus Eee Pad Transformer Tablet and its new concept of docking the tablet with the keyboard. I would love to hear your views on it.
Screen: Screen is, arguably, the most important factor to consider while buying a Tablet. Wireless Connections: Nearly every tablet is Wi-Fi-capable. Some models only support the 802.11b/g spec. This probably won’t be a big deal if you’ll just use your tablet for general computing, but if you plan on doing media-streaming and heavy-duty downloads, look for 802.11n. OS and Apps: The main choices here are Apple’s iPhone-proven OS and Google’s up-and-coming Android. Each has advantages and drawbacks. Storage: The one thing that will always be true about storage is that you can never have enough of it, especially if you plan on using your tablet as an entertainment device for movies and music. Check for Speakers and Camera. Jake.
Check out the nexus 7, only 250, but really good bang for your buck. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Well you can narrow it down to two tablets actually. The Motorola Xoom is a far superior Tablet than The Acer Iconia Tablet. The major difference between these tablets is: Motorola Xoom: Audio Formats Supported are AAC, MP3, MPEG-4, ACC+ Enhanced, OGG, MIDI, AMR NB, AAC+ Internal Storage 32 GB. Display Technology LED. $499 Acer Iconia Tablet: N/A. Internal Storage 16 GB. Display Technology LCD. $499. iPad 3 is hands down the best tablet available in the market.
I purchased an Apple Ipad 3 on Friday. So far I love it!!!! I just couldn't find the acer anywhere out to physically play on it and in the end the quality of the Apple just kept drawing me in. I like Android as well, however when it came down to it I just didn't want to risk getting one and then thinking I should've got the Ipad all along. Go figure. Now just to find all the cool things that it'll do. Tips and tricks. ? Any programs out there that allow me to do Word docs without buying 10 dollar programs?
So perhaps a new ipad is coming out this fall? Not sure I should focus on that...but dang it.... everytime a "new" one comes out. I've heard about the mini??? but I really wanted a full size. Not sure what improvements will be made...but so far I don't think I made a mistake.... someone second that? LOL
I think the rumor is supposed to be a smaller version of the iPad. I got an iPad back in March because it was far and away the best thing at the time. The Android ones haven't matured enough and even the Google brass admitted they are late to the tablet game. Samsung is now hyping its Note 10.1 tablet and it looks like a compelling product. I am pleased with the iPad and wouldn't take it back. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
:O) I did see the Samsung Note. Looked interesting....although I saw a couple of reviews posts that talked about cracked and broken screens from light usage. I was like uh oh.... kind've like the issues that Asus had with the wifi connectivity on their tabs, which is why the new Infinity tab has the the plastic part on the back. I'm VERY happy with the ipad. I just would be mad since I finally got something for them to do what I hope they don't. Of course Harold is all over my ipad..ha ha ha He loves the new Kindle Fire I got him for his birthday for 95 dollars brand new. (Killer deal...walked into at Target when they were marking down and discontinuing) But he's already going oh Ipad..... now he gets it. the smoothness was just too much to not have if that makes sense. Thanks for the reply!
