They shouldn't anymore... all former SoCal CellularONE (WWC) customers should be fully converted to Alltel now.

Well I finally saw one of there commercials, it was on VH1 and guess they are gearing up for something, either that or they were sold on doing national advertising vs regional, since we don't have Alltel here in the NY/NJ area.
I did like how the Verizon guy asked if he could call Catherine using the "My Circle" & the look she gave him. :p

The Alltel ads are national ads. I've been seeing them quite a bit on various cable networks, particularly Comedy Central late at night...and since I have DirecTV, they can't possibly be local inserts. :)

I question the wisdom of Alltel doing this -- it seems like a waste of money to do national ads that only apply to about 1/6 of the total US population and very few large cities (IIRC, Alltel covers about 50 million pops, compared to the 200+ million the Big Four cover.) I know why Verizon runs DSL ads nationwide (cable companies refuse to do them as local inserts since they'd hurt the cable companies' cable modem business), but I can't see Alltel running into the same problem with wireless ads, especially with smaller, primarily rural cable companies such as Charter and Bresnan that don't do wireless.

It makes you wonder why they went this route, unless they have something bigger to gain with the future & getting their name out sooner to get people to start thinking about them as a carrier.
Especially if during the next auction they are really pushing to get bandwidth into some markets that they need to get to become a National Carrier, either that or it was cheaper vs patchworked regional commercials.

Roamer1, I also have DirecTV... but haven't seen them yet. (I can't get hold of the remote.) Assuming that Alltel were doing a buy on satellite delivered TV, with Echostar too, they would be covering well the wide open spaces in rural Alltel land beyond the reach of cable!

I think the number was closer to 80m pops. Still not that many though. The thing about advertising for alltel is most of their customers live in areas surrounding cities. So, they have to advertise the way they are....in markets they don't necessarily operate in.

They converted over to Alltel up in the Bishop/Mammoth area a couple months ago at least.

It is true that a lot of cable companies don't expand into some of the rural areas ALLTEL covers and advertising by satellite makes sense. I have Cable and I'm in Northern Utah, where ALLTEL has no licenses, and I still see ALLTEL ads on almost a daily basis. Seeing the ads every time makes me laugh, but at the same time wonder if ALLTEL really is planning something bigger and wants to get their name out there.

I noticed that as well but I thought it was relevant since I have started seeing a lot more ALLTEL ads again within the last month or two, and to me that is relevant since I have cable and live outside an ALLTEL area.

Funny you mention this - Alltel has ads running on the San Francisco Chronicle's website (sfgate.com). The closest area they cover from here is a good 5 hour drive over CA120 to Bridgeport.

    Go figure.

I actually see Alltel commercials quite often but usually only on cable channels. I've never seen Alltel commercials on local channels.

We have Time Warner Cable and see these ads ALL the time! It's annoying, yet intriguing. My husband wants to switch to Alltel....I think he thinks we can just do it online. He hates contracts, yet even to get a really nice phone with Alltel, you need a 2-yr contract to get good pricing.

We've had a family plan with Sprint for 3 years and used to have T-Mobile. Looking for a change or upgrade of plans. The Treo phone looks appealing...

Oh yeah, we see those Sonic ads also!

The Alltel commercials are back in full force here even though we don't have Alltel. It pisses me off that Alltel is wasting their money on ads when nobody can sign up for their service. I wonder how many people get fooled into thinking they can switch to Alltel only to find out later that the ads were a mistake?

I am sure alot do, especially when people think it's in their area & are fed up with their current carrier.
I have a feeling it's out of their control with the national stations & cable, or the networks are getting more money out of them saying it has to be done nationally.

It is... I've seen their ads on TNT so it's probably a national rate, even if the commercials air in places that Alltel doesn't cover. Not much they can do about that.

I just enjoy their commercial since they're funny as heck.

I see it as Alltel's loss they aren't in Los Angeles. I can't help it, it's the Angeleno in me...:p

Advertising in the largest wireless market in the US when you can't offer service there is something that shouldn't be allowed to happen IMO. No matter what the excuse.

I agree with you larry, but I wonder how this could be accomplished? Alltel isn't the only business advertised on cable networks that we don't have here in SoCal. Ruby Tuesday's is one that immediately comes to mind.,not to mention Sonic (having 1 in SoCal doesn't count) as well.
