I am looking to purchase a new phone in the next month or two. I am partial to Nokia because of the overall quality and the audio appears to be louder than some others I've tried. Any news on upcoming quad-band phones; preferably Nokia in the near future? Thanks in advance.
I know there's a sony ericsson w810 that's coming out soon, it's an awesome phone. Also if I recall nokia maybe releasing a UTMS compatible phone soon so be on the lookout for that.
Cingular has delayed/cancelled a number of Nokia phones in the last few months, so I wouldn't hold my breath. Several people here have had success buying an unlocked Nokia 6131, which is quad band, and using it on Cingular. See Charlyee's 6131 thread
Motorola V3i is out. Samsung C417 is out. SE W300i should be available soon, if not already Cingular 3125 is out (Smartphone, Windows® Mobile 5.0 ). All of these are quad-band. No Nokias I can find, sorry.
Nokia N73, N80, E50, E61, 6125, 6131, and 6270 are all quad-band. They are not offered by any carrier, but that's the beauty of GSM: they don't have to offer them for you to use them. I have also heard mention of the N75 that Cingular is testing.
I currently have a TDMA Nokia programmed for two telephone lines. I can select either one. However, Cingular/ATT plans to eliminate TDMA by June 2007. I understand that there are dual simms available for two line reception/transmission on GSM. Can someone with some experience or expertise in this area tell me what I must do when it comes time, reluctantly for me to switch to GSM, so that I can have a dual SIMMS within it. Do I have to buy the dual/line SIMM? Will any dual line SIMM work with any phone? If I want a GSM with voice dialing, speakerphone, blue tooth, small and compact, any recommendations on a particular SUPER and special GSM. I prefer the smallest phone possible if it has at least speakerphone, voice-mail dialing, and a picture capability. Any suggestions on dealing with Cingular/ATT when it comes time to get a new phone? I understand that they are going to try to force people to switch to GSM before June 2007 by starting a "surcharge" for $5/month to force people to start switching. With the dual line phone, other than turning it off, is there any way to keep my privacy as to my location?
