I copied this from the link provided regarding the "anti-get it now" petition. To: Verizon Wireless This is a petition for Verizon Wireless to stop and disband the "Get It Now" Service, in addition, stop limiting our cellular phones functionality to elevate and promote the "Get It Now" Service. By signing this form you are agreeing that the “Get It Now” Service should be stopped and our cellular phones functionality should be reprogrammed with the manufactures original features. (i.e. downloading ringtones and backgrounds from the web, J2ME, book marking on web, full SMS functionality, uploading directly to your phone, etc.) Sincerely, Ok, I am not a Verizon user, so bare with me. I thought Get It Now was the ability to do the very same thing you are petitioning against. Taken from Verizon's site: What is Get It Now ? Get It Now is a technology and service that allows you to download and use applications on your Verizon Wireless Get It Now-enabled phone. For example, you can quickly and easily download ring tones, games, e-mails, directions, instant messages and more to your phone and use them right on your handset. It is a new enhancement to wireless technology. Can someone make this all make sense to me?
The point is that with Get it now, you can only get ringtones, graphics, and the like, from Verizon themselves and not any third party sites. I think the users want to be able to download backgrounds and ringtones from other sites on the wireless web instead of having to use VZW's service. That's the only sense i can make of it.
